The Deceit of a Devil (The Boys of Clermont Bay #4)(12)
Author: Holly Renee

“Well, you wouldn’t be benched if you didn’t get into a fight,” she said it like that idea hadn’t occurred to me.

“I wouldn’t have gotten into a fight if you hadn’t decided to date the douchiest guy in the entire country.”

She finally blinked both eyes open and looked at me. “Are you trying to say that you being so territorial over me is my fault?”

“No.” I shook my head even though I guess I kind of was. “I’m just saying that you decided to go out with the biggest asshole who makes comments about you that I can’t fucking stand. If he tells anyone else that he’s slept with you...”

She moved closer to me, and the scent of her perfume overwhelmed me. “What will you do?”

“I’ll fucking kill him.”

She grinned at my words and the growl in my voice, and her gaze didn’t waver from my mouth. “You’re really hot when you get jealous. Did you know that?”

I looked up at our friends who were all pretending not to be listening in on our conversation, but I knew that they all were. I looked back at Allie and adjusted my jeans. If she didn’t stop staring at me like that, I wasn’t going to care who was around us. “How much have you had to drink?”

“A little bit.” She pinched her thumb and finger together to show me the slightest amount of space.

“I think you’ve maybe had a bit more than that.”

Her hand dug into the sand as she leaned even closer to me. It was as if her body was doing it all on its own without her permission.

“Maybe.” She shrugged and brought her eyes up to meet mine. “We should go swimming.”

She was out of her mind. It was cold enough just sitting out here on the beach. The ocean would be freezing tonight.

“Not happening.” I shook my head and moved a rogue curl out of her face.

“You know that you don’t get to tell me what to do, right?” Her hand inched closer to mine in the sand, and when they finally met, I felt the touch straight to my cock.

“You’re freezing.” Her hand felt like ice, and I finally looked down at what she was wearing. A pair of blue jean shorts covered her ass and not much more, and a small t-shirt that barely met the fabric of her jeans.

“I’m fine.”

I leaned forward and reached behind my head, pulling my sweatshirt off in one long tug, and I pushed it in her direction. Her cheeks were flushed as she took it.

She didn’t hesitate as she pulled her arms through the sleeves and then the rest over her head. It swallowed her whole, my sweatshirt at least three times too big for her, and God, she looked so adorable in it.

She brought the front of my sweatshirt to her nose, and she closed her eyes are she breathed heavily. “You smell so good.” Her voice was dreamy and full of lust, and I had no idea how much she actually had to drink, but I knew that she wouldn’t have said that out loud if she was thinking clearly.

Josie grinned down at her friend before linking her arm with Frankie’s. “Allie, we’re going to get another drink. Do you want to come with us, or do you want to stay with Carson?”

I wanted to kill her because I didn’t want Allie to move an inch unless it was closer to me.

“I’ll stay with him.”

Josie raised an eyebrow in my direction, and I rolled my eyes. “I’ve got her.”

“Uh-huh,” she mumbled, but still walked away with Frankie on her arm. Beck and Olly followed behind them like two lovesick puppies, and I turned to look back at Allie once we were finally alone.

“Do you think that Olly likes Frankie?” She was squinting as she stared at them walking away from us, and even drunk, I was sure she noticed the way Frankie looked back over her shoulder and shared a smile with Olly.

“I don’t know.” I rubbed the back of my head because I didn’t know how to answer her. “I think it’s complicated.”

“Oh God.” She groaned and rolled her eyes before standing.

“What?” I climbed to my feet and put a steadying hand on her elbow.

“You and all are your complications.” She did air quotes with her fingers as she said the last word. “If you like a girl, just say it. It’s really not that hard.”

“Okay.” I smirked because she was so damn cute, especially when she was flustered. “I like you, Allie.”

“Oh, dear God.” She rolled her eyes even harder before walking away from me.

I followed behind her step for step and finally caught up enough to look down at her face. “What? I’m not allowed to like you?”

She stopped in her tracks and poked her finger into my face. “No. You’re allowed to, but you don’t. What you like is a girl who is willing to get on her knees for you without any other complications.” She air quoted her fingers again before continuing her walk.

I had no idea where she was going, but she was leading us away from the party and further down the beach. The further she moved from the bonfire, the darker it got, and the urge to pick her up and carry her back was overwhelming.

“Considering you’ve never gotten on your knees for me, and I still like you, I think that proves your little theory wrong.”

She swirled on me again, this time pressing her chest to mine, and I felt like I was the one who now needed to be steadied. “I would, though, and that’s the point.”

“You would what?” I swallowed as I watched her search my face. My heart hammered in my chest and my stupid cock strained against my jeans. She was barely even touching me, and already I felt like she was torturing me.

“I would get on my knees for you.”

I groaned at her words and ran my fingers through my hair. She stared at my mouth before meeting my eyes, and I knew that I could get lost in her forever. “Don’t say shit like that.”

“Why not?” She pushed her hair out of her face and her tongue just barely ran over her bottom lip. “It’s the truth.”

“You don’t even like me, remember?” I gripped her upper arm in my hand to keep some separation between us because I felt like I was falling into her.

“I don’t have to like you to want to taste you.”

My cock jumped at her words, and I cursed as I watched her. “You’re drunk.”

She rolled her eyes again and wrapped her fingers into my t-shirt. “I haven’t had that much to drink.”

“You hated me yesterday.”

“I still hate you.” She pushed even closer and everywhere she touched me felt like a brand. “But I’m clearly a sucker for punishment. I’m willing to ruin myself over and over for you.”

“God, Allie.” I stepped back, and she stumbled forward at my sudden movement.

“What?” She reached out for me and steadied herself with her hand on my forearm.

“Don’t say shit like that.”

“Why not? It’s the truth.” She blinked up at me, and I hated that I made her believe that. I was solely responsible for this girl believing that the shit I had given her was what she deserved.

“Is that what you think I want from you? For you to be hurt by me over and over?” I didn’t. Of course, I didn’t.

She raised her chin and stared at me. “Yes, Carson. I do. That’s what you’ve proven to me. That’s what you’ve slammed in my face.”
