Everything That Glitters (Velvet Thunder, #1)(12)
Author: Emery Jacobs

I close my eyes and inhale deeply. I can still smell him. Maybe it’s the T-shirt, or maybe his scent has woven itself into my skin; whatever it is, I’m loving it.

I pad across the floor to the French doors and pull them open. The air is heavy and humid, which is typical for pretty much any month here in Louisiana. I take in a deep breath as I step out onto the large balcony. Wow, this place is really nice, even more amazing than I remember from when I was here touring the community with Uncle Kurt. I inspect the beauty of the well-maintained terrace. The solar lights give the yard a soft glow, and the balcony overlooks a rectangular pool with a patio that includes a small outdoor kitchen. I’m still completely confused about how he is able to afford a place like this. If I only knew his name, it could help me figure out who he is and how he is able to live so comfortably. Why do I even care? I’ll never see him again after tonight.

I take in a few much-needed deep breaths, lean against the railing, and listen to the band. The event center is lit up, and I can see a couple of white tents set up with several people laughing and dancing.

The band begins to play “Speechless” by Dan + Shay, and I smile because I love this song so much. Even though I grew up on rock and roll, I’ve always considered myself a country girl at heart. Strong arms wrap around me from behind as he pulls me into his warm, mostly naked body. A shiver rushes over me as he moves his mouth near my ear.

“You like this song, huh?” His heated breath dances across my skin.

“How can you tell?” I rest my head against his chest.

He chuckles softly. “You were making a moaning noise, and I just assumed you were either trying to sing or—”

“Whatever—I wasn’t moaning. It’s called humming, but more importantly, why were you spying on me?” Honestly, I didn’t even realize I was doing it. When you grow up in the music world, humming is second nature.

“I wasn’t spying.” He kisses my neck before he begins singing along with the band. A thousand butterflies take flight in my belly. It’s like he’s singing to me, and I want to live here in this moment for a really long time. He hits every single note flawlessly. It’s not enough that he’s gorgeous—now he’s singing one of my favorite songs and his voice is super sexy with the perfect amount of rasp. He holds on to me tightly as we sway to the beat of the music. This moment feels like more than one night; it feels real.

He shifts his weight behind me and inhales deeply. “I was just looking at you and wondering if you had any idea how hot you look wearing my T-shirt,” he says as he brushes his lips across my cheek. And the red hot heat is back, rushing through me and taking my breath away. No guy has ever said things to me like he does. He makes me feel both desirable and slightly uncomfortable, but not in a bad way. I don’t answer because he’s singing again, and his voice is deliciously beautiful.

After the song ends, I lift his arms a bit and turn to face him. “I didn’t take you for a country music guy.” I smile, and he kisses my forehead then my lips.

“Mmmm . . . in case you haven’t realized it yet, I’m full of surprises.” He laughs softly then looks down at me and grins. “Music is music, and I don’t discriminate.”

“What does that even mean?”

“It means I like all music.”

“Rock, rap, alternative, blues, pop, hip hop?”

“Yep, all of those.”

“What about classical or opera?” I tease.

“Not my favorite, but like I said, I don’t discriminate.”

My heart swells because I think this guy may actually be my musical soul mate. I’ve always considered my taste in music a little different, because I, too, love all kinds, even though I like some genres more than others.

I rise up on my toes, wrap my arms around his neck, and pull him in for a hug. I don’t know why I do this, but it feels right. Like this conversation somehow triggered a closeness between us that only I understand. I would never tell anybody about the ridiculous way I feel, especially not him, because it would make me seem kind of pathetic. “So . . .” I hesitate for a second because I’m sure he’s gonna shoot down my next few questions, but I have to ask out of my own curiosity. “Do you always have the no-name policy with women you hook up with?”

He tilts his head slightly toward the right. He doesn’t answer, so I continue with the question I’ve been dying to ask ever since he walked onto the balcony, wrapped his arms around my waist, and sang to me.

“Will you just tell me your first name and I’ll—”

His eyes narrow. “Don’t.” He covers my mouth with his, silencing me with a hard kiss. My body melds into his as he pulls me in nearer, holding me tighter. Suddenly, all the reasons I wanted to know his name vanish because I’m consumed with our kiss.

He begins to walk backward, leading me away from the muggy heat and into the coolness of the bedroom. My skin heats up as his fingers skim my stomach. He gently grips the hem of his T-shirt, tugs it over my head, and lets it fall to the floor. I moan softly just before he pulls away from our kiss.

“You’re so fucking sexy and I can’t wait another minute . . .” His words fade away softly as he kisses me on the nose, then my chin, and finally my mouth. He brushes my lips gently as he says, “All I’ve thought about since you had me pressed against the wall earlier tonight was being inside of you.”

I swallow hard. I’m hot and so damn ready for this, for him.

“I’m gonna fuck you so hard,” he whispers near my ear as he wraps his arms around me, and for the second time tonight, he lifts me off the floor. He lays me down gently on top of the soft mattress before tugging off his boxer briefs. After kicking them across the room, he moves quickly toward the bed. He stops and grins. “Are you ready for me, mean girl?”

“Mmm . . . yeah, I’ve been ready. Just waiting on you.” Heat pools between my legs as the look in his eyes shifts from sexy and playful to something that looks a lot like hunger.

He crawls onto the bed and hovers over me. His lips find my neck and move down across my chest to stop just shy of my breast. I unhook my bra and tear it away from my body. A smile flickers across his sexy mouth as his gaze leaves mine and travels to my breasts.

“Damn, you are fucking beyond beautiful.”

I try to fight the heat that’s rushing to my face, because even though the compliment gives my confidence a boost, I’m not stupid. I know his words are more than likely used with every woman he sleeps with.

He moves his hand up to cup my breast, flicking his finger over my nipple. I moan as I arch my back, wordlessly begging for more. His mouth skims across my warm skin, tugging on my nipples before kissing his way over my chest to my neck, jawline, and finally landing on my lips. The first hungry swipe of his tongue takes my breath away. I reach for my panties as I rock my hips against his erection, but he beats me there.

“I got this,” he whispers, breaking away from our kiss. He gently tugs on the only barrier remaining between us. I twist, turn, and wriggle my ass until I’m free. He rises up to his knees, leans over me, opens the nightstand, and grabs a condom. How convenient, condoms next to the bed in the room that’s not his. This is obviously the sex bedroom. It’s only a one-night stand—just let it go. I shrug off the feeling because the only thing that matters right now is that it’s me who is on his mind, in his arms, occupying his bed. Plus, I knew exactly what tonight was about before I even walked through the front door
