Roots of Vengeance(3)
Author: Maggie Cole

I’m still reeling when he takes me into the VIP room and points out Fisher Corbyn who’s surrounded by women.

You’re here to infiltrate. He could be bad.

Any man who kisses like that has to be a bad boy.

He seems too sweet.

No way he’s only twenty-two.

He takes a seat on the couch and pulls me on his lap.

“How old are you?” I ask him.

“How old do you think?”

I decide to tell him what I initially thought, but now I’m wondering if maybe he’s thirty, kissing me like he did.

“Twenty-six? Maybe twenty-seven?”

He shakes his head, amused. “No.”

“How old are you?”

“How old are you?” He flips the question on me.

“Twenty-four.” I don’t have any reason to lie on this mission.

He traces my lip with his finger. “Is age a big deal to you?”

Not when you kiss like a sex god.

I shrug. “I don’t know. Should it be?”

“I’m twenty-two.”

I already know, but it still shocks me.

His expression becomes a mix of amused and cocky.

“You don’t kiss like a twenty-two-year-old,” I blurt out then feel the heat rise to my cheeks.

He leans in. “There’s a lot of things I don’t do like a twenty-two-year-old.”

As my loins burn and my heart races, it’s official. I’m in trouble with this target.

Leaning into Gia’s ear, I murmur, “I’ve been rude.”

She raises her brow at me.

How the hell did I end up with this woman tonight?

“I didn’t ask you if you’re from here?”

Please be from here and not far away.

“I’m from all over but living in Tampa right now.”

I trace her lips, my mouth watering to taste them again. “Good. Do I get your number so I can take you out?”

She bites her lip then says, “Okay.”

The shot girl comes by with a tray. “Want one?”

Gia passes so I do, too.

“Brooks, you wuss,” Fisher yells across the room. “Get back there.” He points to us, and the waitress returns and hands Gia and me glasses.

“You don’t have to drink it if you don’t want to,” I tell her.

She downs it, so I do the same.

Gia rises. “I have to go to the ladies’ room.”

I stand. “I’ll walk you.”

I’m not letting you out of my sight.

Gia waves and exchanges hellos with several girls.

“You seem to know a lot of people.”

“A few. Club scene. You know how it is.”

“Actually, I don’t. I’ve only started coming out to Ybor when Fisher is here.”

She tilts her head. “Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Where do you normally hang out?”

“The beach, places on the island with my family, work.”

She bites back a grin.

“What?”

She cups my face in her hand. “You’re cute.”

“Cute?”

Great, she thinks I’m too young now.

“Mh-hmm. It’s nice you hang out with your family.”

“You don’t see yours?”

Her face falls. “No.”

“Why not?”

She shrugs, and we get to the women’s room. “You don’t have to wait. I’ll find you when I’m done.”

“It’s not a big deal. I’ll wait.”

“You sure?”

“Yes.”

“Okay. Thanks.” She steps into the room, and the door shuts.

No thanks needed. I’m not letting some other guy grab your attention.

I pull my phone out and text Gracie. “Are you coming? Fisher has been asking about you.”

“Not tonight. I’m out with the girls.”

“He’s only in town for a few nights.”

“Oh well. Next time then.”

Gia steps out of the restroom and puts her hand on my arm. “Everything okay?”

“Yeah.”

“What time is it?”

I glance at my phone. “Almost closing time.”

“Time for you to head back to the island?”

“No. Fisher’s having an after-party. He rented a house.”

Silence.

Gia’s lips turn up. “Are you asking me to go?”

“Yes. But it doesn’t count as our date.”

The tiniest hint of a blush creeps on her face. “You seem serious about taking me out.”

I pull her into my arms. “I am. So do you want to go to Fisher’s?”

“You won’t ditch me, right?”

I raise my eyebrows. “What do you think?”

Her blush deepens. “I’m in.”

Yes!

“Want to get out of here, then?”

“Sure.”

I kiss her hand, and we leave. I order an Uber and give the driver the address Fisher texted me.

Gia snuggles into my chest, and my fingers stroke her arm, and goose bumps pop out, which makes my dick press harder against my zipper.

The things I want to do to her. There’s undeniable chemistry between us, and I’ve never felt anything like it.

I pull her into me and slowly rub my hand up and down her arm. “You cold?” I know she isn’t and don’t expect her to answer. It’s her body reacting to mine. She shudders slightly. I pull her in tighter and kiss the top of her head.

Gia’s head tilts up, and I trace her jawline, pinning her with my gaze.

“You’re really gorgeous.”

Her breath increases, and her pert breasts rise and fall.

“Fisher’s can get a bit unorthodox, so if you want to leave at any time, just let me know.”

“I’ll be okay.”

“Just let me know if you change your mind.”

She opens her mouth to speak but stops.

I brush my lips against hers. “What were you going to say?”

“I was just wondering how you met Fisher?”

I steal another kiss. “It was my sister’s birthday, and I was bartending. He was there. He has the hots for her.”

“So he knew your sister first?”

“No. Just a customer.”

“Oh,” she says.

“Why?” I dip down and nibble on her ear, and she inhales sharply.

“Wondering...just...oh,” she whispers when I suck on her lobe.

Her voice is like a song—sweet, sensual, so seductive my cock is throbbing. Listening to her, I’m imagining what it would sound like calling out my name.

My arm drops to the outside of her thigh, and I caress it, restraining myself from slipping my hand up her dress.

God, I want to pleasure her.

Her lips taste like fresh strawberries, and her tongue is like chocolate melting in my mouth. I’m deepening our kiss, and her hands are gripping my hair when the car stops.

“Have a nice night,” the Uber driver says, his voice pulling me out of our kiss.

She’s flushed and breathless, and I’ve never seen anything so beautiful.
