Kings of Silverlake Prep (Dark Academy Romance Book 1)
Author: Debbie Long

Chapter one

Everly

When I think my life can’t get any worse, it does. My dipshit of a dad has sent me away, again. That’s why I’m standing outside this prep school.

Since my mom died, he’s changed. He was still a dick, but now, he’s worse. Though, I’ve changed too.

My dad always portrayed we were the perfect family, but we never were, it was all a front for the press. The day he found me in the bathtub was the day he decided to send me away. That’s the thing with my dad when you can’t deal with something, he let someone else deal with it.

I walk up the steps to my new life. People stare at me as I walked by, but they always do. I’m used to all the attention, after all my mom was a famous model. Her death is still all over the magazines and on social media. What’s worse is the pictures of her in her final moments. I can see the students peering at me, wondering where they’ve seen me before. Sighing I keep moving.

Looking at the old building, feeling alone once again, I think to myself what my mum would say of this old place. I can hear her voice in my head, the mixture between an English accent and Japanese. She would say ooh what a stuffy place for these rich assholes. It smells of old, bet the inside smells like a dirty old man. I snicker to myself, thinking the exact same thing. Looking up at the crest above the door and the school saying We Stand Together. Whatever that is meant to mean. Shaking my head, I head towards the big oak doors that remind me of an old castle.

I come to a dead stop when three girls’ step-in front of me. I hold in my laugh at their signature popular girl look. They are all blonde all blue eyed and all matching in their short little skirts crop tops and high boots, the signature slutty look.

“Welcome to Silverlake prep.” Blonde number one says, with fake pep.

I resist the urge to roll my eyes. “Thanks, I was told the principal would be meeting me.”

“We will take you to him.” She’s all smiles, but I see the assessment. She is measuring me up, seeing if I am a threat to her.

Guess I have met the queen bee of the school and her hive.

“So, why are you here?” she asks.

I do roll my eyes then at her bitchy tone. She doesn’t want to be nice; she just wants the next piece of gossip. Guess what love, you’re not getting it from me.

“I don’t think that’s any of your business.” I simply say.

She raises a perfectly plucked eyebrow. She is the type of person that gets her way, the type of person that has everyone kissing her feet. Not me.

“You know, there are rules here.” She stops, looking me over again. “We.” She gestures to the other two girls. “Are the queens of this school. We get what we want and when we want. You will meet the kings. Sinclair, his family own this school, you don’t want to cross him, he is also my boyfriend.” Why does she feel the need to say that? I couldn’t care less who he is, and my guess is that she isn’t with him, just warning me off.

“Aww, the little king and queen.” I shake my head. “Like I haven’t heard that shit before. I don’t take orders from my dad, why would you think I would take orders from some preppy asshole and his bitch.” I sneer.

“Fucking bitch.” She steps towards me, her face red from not getting her own way. Get used to it bitch.

“Do we have a problem here.” A male voice sounds behind me.

I turn the sound and my breath hitches. Fuck me, he is gorgeous. Even though his arrogant manner is a put off. I can’t help but look him over. Dark hair perfectly swept back, most probably uses a hair dryer and straighteners. The steel blue eyes gaze into my own. He has on the school uniform. Black slacks, white shirt and the silver tie hanging loosely around his neck. I see his chest twitch, the muscles bouncing under the shirt that I can see through. Fuck, he looks like superman.

He clears his throat. I look up to see the smirk on his face. I try not to blush, but I cover my face with my hair anyway.

The blonde girl glares at me as she links her arm through his. Ah, this must be Sinclair. He huffs, his demeanour changing to irritation. He shakes her off, her eyes widen but then she smiles sweetly up at him.

“This is the new girl, Everly. I was just telling her the rules of the school Sin.”

Sinclair closes his eyes, breathing deeply. She stiffens next to him, her eyes darting away.

Interesting.

Before he can speak, two more of the hottest guys I have ever laid eyes on show up.

The blonde one, stares at me with those big blue eyes. He moves his bangs out of his eyes to get a better look at me. He gives me a cheeky grin; all dimples and baby faced. I swear I almost swoon. He is utterly adorable. Another superhero pops into my mind, he has the cocky attitude of Thor. Yum, I could get on that, or on him.

The other one doesn’t even look at me. He is huge, obviously works out. His beefy arms are crossed, his arms bulging through his shirt. His hair is as black as my own, but with blue highlights streaking through it. He is like a dark vengeful Aqua man. When he does glance my way, his dark eyes look me over, then he dismisses me with a roll of his eyes.

“Can we, fucking go.” He barks. He storms off without even waiting.

“Someone needs his dick sucking.” The cheeky blonde says. He gives me a little wave, before walking away.

One of the girl’s trails after him like a puppy. The other looks longingly at the hulks back before she too walks away.

“Are you going to show me the way to the principal’s office or not?” I snap, done with all this childish behaviour. My heart rate picks up when Sinclair offers me his arm. I take it.

“I’ll show you. After all, this is my school.” He grabs the biggest case, dragging it behind him.

The look on the blonde’s face, man I wish I had a camera. I try not to laugh, but a giggle bubble’s out.

Sinclair chuckles, then bends to whisper in my ear.

“I wouldn’t take her on if I were you. The last girl that did, she never came back to this school.”

I shiver, looking into his eyes. The intense gaze makes me shudder. I think I have just walked into the lion’s den and I am their next meal.

We walk along in silence. Me taking in the interior of the school. The building is old, high beams, lots of stairs. There are statues everywhere. I assume they are the founders of the school. The paintings are something else, all men and no women. I stare at the one of Sinclair, he looks the same as the other men. Stern, scary looking and the look that touches your soul, not in a good way.

He sees me looking but doesn’t comment.

We stop by a door; he looks down at me. “Welcome to Silverlake, you are going to hate it here.” He laughs, leaving me feeling perplexed.
