A Crown Of Pride And Ruin(4)
Author: Sloane Murphy

“She has to be around here somewhere, they couldn’t just disappear,” Levi says, and unfurls his wings, shooting up into the sky.

“I’m going to see if any of our lot have any ideas,” Caleb announces. He pulls a vial from his pocket, sprinkles a few drops of blood on the ground and disappears in front of us.

“She wouldn’t have gone without saying anything. Not after last time,” Creek says, even as he paces.

“This is pretty far off from the route they were meant to take. Something could have happened and Fallon portaled them home,” Kain offers.

“Yeah, but if that’s the case, why can’t we sense her? Why can’t you speak to her?” I clench a hand in my hair, the pain centering me a little. “Theron, Emmett, scour the rest of these woods, then meet us back at the manor,” I order. They both dip their heads and take off into the thickness of the forest.

“We should get back to the others,” I tell the other two. “Levi’s got air cover sorted, Caleb’s looking into demon bullshit. We need to get back to the manor in case she’s there and this is just all fucked up. The witch can portal us.”

It doesn’t take long to get back to the clearing with the cabin. Serafina is talking quietly with Amelia and Clara, while the others watch them closely. Creek takes Colt to one side to explain everything to him, hopefully without him losing his shit, while I move towards Serafina. “Any luck?” Serafina asks as she spots us.

“Nothing. We’re going to head back to the manor. Is everything okay here?” I’m still skeptical about the angel and her witch but something about how much of an ice bitch Serafina is makes me trust her.

“Yeah, they had nothing to do with anything.” She sighs and runs a hand down her face. “I’ve no idea how we got it all so twisted.”

“We’re sorry for the intrusion,” Kain says to the two of them, and they smile at him with that starry look chicks get. Slick bastard. He could charm the pants off of a fucking nun. Even with the whole, child of a demon, blood sucker thing.

“Would…” the redhead starts, her voice so quiet. She clears her throat and then smiles again at him. “Would you like a portal to your home?”

“If you wouldn’t mind, that would be much appreciated.” He gives her another smile and she blushes so hard she practically glows.

“Of course,” she nods at him, and the blonde squeezes her hand before releasing her. She moves forward and everyone who was with us comes to stand with us as she speaks to Kain about how to get the portal to open where we need it to. I leave him to deal with the witch, and move to Serafina and Amelia.

“Two of my wolves are still out here, scouting. If they can get this help when they’re done, should they find themselves back here, it would be greatly appreciated.” Amelia rolls her eyes while Serafina snorts a laugh.

“Of course, any friend of the people who tried to burn down my house are friends of mine,” Amelia huffs.

“They’ll help,” Serafina says in a tone that brokers no argument, and Amelia rolls her eyes again.

“We’ll help them if they turn up here,” she agrees.

“Thank you.” I move back to Kain as the witch opens the portal.

“Who’s heading back first?” he asks as I reach him.

“I’ll go back first, you come back with this lot, Creek can bring up the rear. It won’t take long to get everyone through, but give me a few minutes to check the perimeter.”

“Okay.” He nods and turns back to the witch, and I step through the portal. I fucking hate these things. It doesn’t matter how old I am, or how many times I use them, I’ll never get used to them.

I fall out the other side, and go on alert. Everything seems quiet, still, I shift, my wolf now calmed enough that I know I have the upper hand, and do a loop of the property. The wards are still in place, and there’s no new scents around that shouldn’t be here, so I head back to the house and shift back just as Kain and the others pour through.

“All clear,” I tell him, and head into the house to find Marie. She had better have some answers for us.

“What happened?” are the words that spill out of the high priestess’s mouth when she sees my face. The ground shakes a little as I reach her, I guess Levi just got back. Showy bastard always has to make an entrance. The electricity that comes with his bad mood prickles at my skin as he gets closer to the library.

I don’t say a word, because despite my wolf's newfound, slightly less erratic state, I’m still wired and likely to tear some heads if someone says something I don’t like. I might be highly volatile, but only when it comes to people fucking with the things I love. And I love her more than I’ve loved anything or anyone.

The other three enter the library, Levi at the front as ever, and Colt trails in behind them, looking pissed off, but also like he knows he’s a little out of his depth. He is the one good thing that came from Remy's family, which is the only reason he’s still alive, especially after how he dealt with everything at the beginning, but if he gets in the way…

“Remy is gone.” Levi’s words are short, clipped, but they make me want to tear things apart. The witch remains calm, but that makes me twitch a little harder. “You need to find her.”

“Where is Fallon?” she asks, and I start to pace again. I know it’s her daughter, and if we find one, we’ll likely find the other, but I don’t give a fuck about her daughter right now. I want to find my fucking mate.

“We don’t know,” Kain tells her in that soothing way of his. I have no idea how he does it, because I know he’s as pissed as I am, but he’s almost cold and detached right now. “We were hoping you’d be able to trace her, or Remy. Or even Nevin. They seem to have, well, vanished for lack of a better word.”

The witch’s eyes go wide, taking in everything he’s saying. I get it. It's not just anyone that could take two angels and a witch. Something feels so fucking off that I can’t keep still. I want to break things. She’s been out of my sight for too long. I knew it was a mistake not keeping her with one of us, but when she gets a thought in her head, no one can stop her. Especially when she thinks we’re treating her like a princess. She doesn’t understand that she is a fucking princess to us. To me.

“Roman,” Levi snaps. “Will you keep fucking still!”

“Fuck you, angel boy,” I snarl. Moving is the only thing keeping me somewhat sane right now.

“Guys, fighting between ourselves isn’t going to solve dick all,” Creek sighs, but he’s not as calm as he seems. He keeps clenching and unclenching his fists. He wants to pummel someone's face in as much as I do right now. He might seem like the soft and sappy guy with Remy, but dude has a temper, especially since the whole ‘he became a demon’ thing.

“Gentlemen. If you’ll stop arguing between yourselves, I’ll try to locate them. Do you have something of Remy’s? Something that she holds dear, or that she recently touched?” Marie asks, trying to take control of the room, while I try not to snort and ask her if my dick will help, ‘cause Remy touched that recently.
