A Crown Of Pride And Ruin(3)
Author: Sloane Murphy

Theron and Emmett flank me as we move towards the cabin, the scouts in our area were pathetic. I tore through them, quite literally, with a smile on my face. It felt good to finally dish out some retribution for all of the shit that’s been put on my girl just recently. There were four of them in our path, the screams they let out were sweet, but it was over way too fast. I barely got to enjoy their pain and suffering as I bled them out. It went far too smoothly, the beast inside me was barely sated. I can only hope it was as smooth and easy for the others. For her. Though I know I’m not the only one feeling more than a little bloodthirsty right now.

I shake my head and try to focus on the cabin. Thinking about Remy is going to distract me, and that isn’t something we can afford. The last thing I want is to be distracted and get someone killed. Someone including myself. I want this shit over so I can run away with my girl, and punish her sweet little pussy for days.

That is what’s getting me through this bullshit. Focusing on the future. One that has seemed too far out of reach for way too fucking long at this point.

I can smell some of the others, they must be as close as we are to the cabin. Remy is holding the left with Creek, and Kain to the right. I know Levi and Caleb want to breach the cabin first. How the fuck the Archangel of War ended up friends with fucking Conquest… it literally could only have happened because of Remy. There is no other possible way that those two would be as close as they are, not without killing each other anyway.

The same could be said for us all. I snort quietly, thinking about how one woman managed to bring together some of the universe's most unlikely friends and make us family.

Fuck my life, I need to stop thinking about this sappy shit and getting distracted. Victory is so close I can fucking taste it, and it’s making me sloppy.

A crack of lightning sets the roof of the cabin alight.

I guess that’s one way to get the angel bitch’s attention. Gets us around the wards her little witch blatantly had in place too.

I hold my position while Theron and Emmett fan out to make sure that if they run, our net is cast wide enough, but the smell of smoke is overpowering almost everything. It might get them out, but it fucks with my chances of scenting the pair of them, or anyone they have out here that got past any of us before.

Two girls appear, fleeing from the house, but freeze as Levi and Caleb appear out of black smoke in front of them. I have no idea where Serafina and Colt are, but I’m sure she’s real happy about babysitting the Hunter. They must have met up at the rear of the cabin as planned.

“Amelia. Clara,” Levi growls, and the girls flinch before him, but the blonde holds her ground, while the other murmurs something and the flames extinguish.

“What the fuck is this?” the blonde huffs. “This is my home, Leviathan. We weren’t hurting anyone, why couldn’t you just leave me alone? It’s been so long since the war I hoped you’d all forgotten about us.”

I guess the blonde is Amelia.

“You know why we’re here,” Levi says, the static charge in the air makes my wolf want out.

“No, I fucking don’t otherwise I wouldn’t have asked.”

“Amelia, maybe you should calm down a little, they have a lot of people with them. This seems like it's about more than us just running away,” the redhead, who I’m assuming is Clara, says softly to her. Amelia relaxes under her touch, but her glare stays fixed on Levi.

Something isn’t right.

I stalk forward, and I guess Kain feels the same thing because our ranks close on the two girls, who look far more helpless than I imagine they are. Two guesses say that works in their favor more often than it fucks with them.

“Levi,” Caleb starts. “Something isn’t adding up.”

“What isn’t adding up?” Amelia asks, her frustration obvious. I sniff, and I can sense her confusion, even over the traces of smoke, though it's mostly gone now thanks to the little witch.

“She really doesn’t know why we’re here,” I tell them. Levi looks at me as he flits from confusion to anger.

This is not going to go well at all.

“Why are you here?” she asks him again, pointedly. “And why the fuck did you just try to burn down our home? Do you have any idea how long it took to find a place as obscure as this, where we could build and no one would bother us?”

“Are you honestly trying to tell me you’ve not been behind all of this?” Levi folds his arms across his chest, and it takes everything in me not to snort. He might be intimidating, but this little angel girl isn’t having any of it.

“Behind all of fucking what? We barely speak to people outside of the ones who help shield us. What on earth could we have done to bring your wrath down upon us, and why the fuck would we want to?” Her frustration is evident, but I sniff the air again.

“I don’t think she’s lying,” I tell them, and Kain nods his head.

“I agree with Roman.”

“Maybe we should get Remy to look inside her mind, it's been a while, but I’m sure she remembers how,” Caleb says with a dark smile.

“Who the fuck is Remy?” Amelia asks, throwing her hands up in frustration.

“Remy is Amantara,” Levi tells her, but the confusion on her face just grows.

“And you thought I talked in circles. What does that even mean? Where is your little pet Shadow Walker anyway?” she asks, and I look up.

Kain frowns, his eyes flash with panic before he speaks. “I can’t reach her.”

“What do you mean you can’t reach her, she should just be behind the cabin,” Levi growls. Caleb disappears from sight in that black mist before reappearing.

“She’s not here. Her, Fallon, and Nevin are all missing,” he announces, and my heart sinks. My wolf loses his fucking mind inside of me. I try to reach for the bond between us, but it's like running at a wall.

“I can’t feel her,” I tell them, trying to keep myself in check.

Levi pins the two girls with a stare that would wither even seasoned soldiers. “Where the fuck is she?”

Emmett and Theron shift and take off through the forest and I tear behind them. If she’s hurt, or worse… I won’t survive it. I refuse to believe it's worse. My wolf would know. We always know. But it doesn’t make sense that I can’t feel her if the worst hasn’t happened.

My wolf thrashes inside of me to be let out to find her, but if I let him out, with the panic flooding him, he’ll try to keep the reins, and that will never fucking happen. I don't want to fight my wolf with everything else going on.

Emmett and Theron skid to a halt. Her scent stops in the middle of fucking thin air. A growl rips through me as my hold on my rage slips, and the two howl in response.

“Fuck!” I shout, and take a swing at the nearest thing to me. Luckily for my guys, it’s a tree. Unluckily for the tree, it cracks and falls creating more than enough noise that everyone will know where we are.

It doesn’t take long for Levi, Creek, Kain, and Caleb to appear beside us.

“There’s no trail. It’s like she disappeared into the ether.” My voice is little more than a growl, but it's taking everything I have to push my anger down. Getting angry isn’t going to sort any fucking thing right now.
