Neon Drops(10)
Author: M. Sinclair

“Let me kill him, Lorcan. I will. Gladly.” Dean pulled away slightly with a dark gaze. Cash nodded as if the plan sounded fucking perfect, his rough hand intertwining with mine as he came to stand at my side.

“You guys are in such a murderous spirit today,” I mumbled and then spoke clearly, “No killing. Promise me, Dean. No killing anyone today.”

Honestly, I wasn’t opposed to killing, but it had been a long day with an even longer night planned. I’d barely seen the Reid brothers throughout the day, and if they killed someone… well, it would take up time. Time they could be spending with me.

Dean’s intense, searing gaze darkened as a low rumble broke from his throat. I could have laughed at that. His lion was never fucking happy about being told what to do. I waited, curious to see how he would react, and I found myself surprised when the massive bastard shook his head but didn’t fight me on it. Yet. Call me crazy, but I didn’t believe that he was really going to let this go.

Letting out a small exhale, I turned my head towards the school gate as the media seemed to swarm into an even larger mass. It was fucking ridiculous. Dean refused to move away and continued to brush through my hair gently with his large fingers, only adding fuel to the fire.

“They would have found out anyway,” Rhett pointed out while taking out a cigarette, lighting it with ease.

I had no idea how he managed to make it look so sexy, but he did. I put my hand out as he offered me a heated look and passed me the cigarette, my eyes tracing his knuckle tattoos that had always turned me the fuck on. I inhaled on the cigarette as he watched my lips, my siren perking up at the idea of teasing him.

“It’s true,” Cash grunted, crossing his arms and drawing my attention. “I mean, we are getting interviewed tonight, that is about as public as you can go.”

“Yeah, but that’s a controlled fucking message,” Adriel muttered. His grumpy tone had me smiling even further. What? I told you, I thought it was adorable, and I planned on telling him so that he could scowl even more about it.

I gave Rhett back the cigarette as his eyes lit up with something else that was equally as delicious, possibly more than before. I could tell the man was thinking dirty thoughts, and I had an avid interest in learning to what extent those existed.

“We should get home,” Desmond stated softly, his eyes flickering to my chest where his mark was. I saw him relax just slightly, despite it not being visible. It was how I knew he was worked up after today. It wasn’t like Desmond to lose his shit, but the more I was around him, the more his demon seemed to make an appearance. I’m not going to even lie, it was sexy.

I honestly think I was just obsessed with these men and there wasn’t anything they could do that would be unattractive to me. I would have to assume that the level of emotional and mental attachment was unhealthy, but that scale was very skewed for me nowadays.

“Dean,” I said, looking up into his nearly black eyes tinged with midnight blue. “I’m going to ride home with your brothers—”

“No,” Dean stated calmly but firmly, looking more tense by the moment.

Draven chuckled, causing me to narrow my eyes at the amused bastard before focusing back on Dean. “Deanie, I rode to school with you. I miss Cash and Rhett. A lot, actually.”

“She sounds surprised,” Cash offered me a mock look of disappointment.

“I know dude,” Rhett scowled. “I think we are pretty fucking missable.”

I couldn’t help but laugh as Dean literally let out a growl before nipping my ear and breaking away from me, looking like he was fucking pouting. I smirked slightly as he walked towards his car. Adriel, Desmond, and Draven headed towards a different vehicle. I wondered who would get to ride home with Deanie. Damn these smaller cars, we needed larger ones for sure.

Cash and Rhett had an SUV, and even that was too small to comfortably fit all the men in my life. I really couldn’t overstate how large these bastards were. It was something you’d have to see to believe. I let out a small yawn as I turned towards the car, realizing that our little motorcade of three extremely expensive cars probably made us look like assholes.

“How was your day, bunny?” Rhett asked happily while opening the passenger door and waiting for me to get settled. Once I did, Rhett hopped into the back as Cash started up the vehicle and blasted the air conditioning. The leather underneath my bare legs burned a bit, but I sort of didn’t mind the slight sting of pain, which probably said a fuck ton about me.

“Some of it sucked,” I admitted while skimming past thoughts of the principal and his sick, twisted mind.

I couldn’t even express how fucked up he was, and I wasn’t about to scar the men I loved with that bullshit. Trust me, I’d seen a lot of twisted desires, and for me to get sick to my stomach over something? It was bad. Real fucking bad.

Not to mention, one of his smaller offenses was the cameras he had in the nurse's office so that he could watch the girls that went in there. I nearly called him on that shit, but I’d filed it away at the bottom of the pile of his transgressions underneath the gruesome things he imagined doing to me to get off.

As we pulled from the parking lot, I shook my head in an attempt to get rid of the horrible visions and took the time to braid my hair in a loose, relaxed style. The cameras flashing around us and people pounding on the car were annoying, but they were becoming almost unnoticeable with everything else going on in my head.

“What if I accidentally ran over one of them?” Cash wondered out loud, sounding furious. I snorted as his fury snapped into a cheeky smile at my amusement. Damn, he really did have a crazy emotional range. It nearly gave me whiplash.

The car radio began to play One Time as I watched the stunning houses on the drive home to the compound go by. I preferred our home, of course, but I still had that feeling that we needed our own place. Was it weird to move in with them?

I mean, we were sort of living together already, but damn, we were an odd range of characters… a three thousand year old fallen angel, an elf king, a demon djinn king, a very dominant lion shifter, a very unstable leopard, and another lion shifter that may or may not have a really fucking dark side. Oh, also me. I was totally part of our fucked up family and proud of it. The thought made me smile.

A weird premonition washed over me as I turned my head back to find three news vans following us. Fucking hell. Persistent motherfuckers. I knew it was my magic pulling them in; it wasn’t like the bunch of us were even that god damn interesting. I narrowed my eyes, realizing that they were from several trash magazines and news companies.

I was distracted enough that when Cash hit the brakes to avoid colliding into a van that came out of nowhere to block our path, I flew forward.

My head smacked the dashboard, and I whimpered in surprise as Rhett’s arm wrapped around my waist and pulled me back. Fuck. I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. I winced as cameras went off around us, the locks engaging as Cash leaned over the center console to tilt my head and look over it.

“Fuck, I am so sorry, kitten,” he whispered, his voice filled with guilt, before his eyes turned to the assholes outside. That was when I saw his temper break out.

“I’m totally fine,” I pointed out, wincing as someone pounded on the window to my right. Rhett made a frustrated rumble. They weren’t exactly very stable, my boys. “Let’s get home, please.”
