Shattered Without You (A Billionaire, Bad Boy and Good Girl Romance)(3)
Author: Melody Nelson

“Of course! I’ve been on it for two days. His secretary keeps saying he is booked for the entire week.”

“We don’t have a week! The surgery needs to be carried out as soon as possible,” The man snapped.

“There’s absolutely nothing I can do right now, that’s why I came to you.”

“I have enough on my plate already. Look at the new patient who has just come in, I need to attend to her. I can’t carry out a surgery this week too,” He replied, “Why don’t you inform the Director?”

“This shouldn’t be happening,” The woman complained, “Miss Warren’s mother has been threatening to sue us. She wants you to carry out the surgery.”

“Mia, please tell her I can’t. Shall we talk about this later? Right now, we need to attend to her,”

Jessica knew they were referring to her. They had come to attend to her. Maybe it was time to let them know she was awake.

“Seems she’s still unconscious,” Mia said, walking closer to Jessica’s bed.

“She should come round anytime soon,” The man said, “Heartbeat’s perfect, blood pressure is perfect.” His voice came from her left, so Jessica guessed he was checking the EKG machine.

“Her temperature is perfect. She should be conscious by now,” The man said, confused.

“Doctor Gabe?” Mia called from Jessica’s right, and he joined her there immediately.

“Look at this, it’s not in the right position,” Mia said, lifting Jessica’s right hand.

Jessica realized bitterly that she had messed up. She hadn’t been able to put her right arm back in a proper position before Doctor Gabe and Mia had come in, so her arm was now dangling from the bed.

“Are you certain she isn’t conscious yet?” Mia asked.

“Miss? Miss?” Doctor Gabe called, “Miss, can you hear me? Give me a sign if you can hear me.”

Jessica finally decided to open her eyes. Mia and Doctor Gabe were happy to see her.

“Oh, thank God,” Doctor Gabe gave her a wide grin.

He wasn’t a guy that she would call attractive. His blonde hair looked so bushy and rough as though a comb hadn’t run through it in days, and he looked like he hadn’t shaved in days either.

Mia, on the other hand, was a very neat young woman. She had long, straight dark hair, which was sleek and neatly combed. When she flashed Jessica a smile, she couldn’t help but notice her perfect white set of teeth. Her acne-free skin glowed, and she looked like someone who wouldn’t tolerate any form of dirt around her. In fact, her coat was well ironed and exceedingly white, unlike Doctor Gabe’s, which looked like he hadn’t even bothered to stretch it after he took it out of the washing machine.

“Hi, miss, can you hear me?” Doctor Gabe asked.

Why in the world wouldn’t she be able to hear him? Jessica thought, but she nodded.

“Good, how many fingers am I holding up?” He asked, holding four fingers up to her face.

“Four,” Jessica replied with a slight frown.

“And this?” He held up two.

“Two,” Jessica replied.

“How about now?” He held up five fingers.

“Five.”

“Wonderful,” Doctor Gabe grinned.

“You have been out since when you were brought in, about three days ago,” Mia announced. “Thank God you are okay now.”

What?! Three days? Jessica thought as she processed what Mia had just said.

As if reading her mind, Mia answered. “Yes, three days ago.”

“Do you remember what happened? Do you remember why you were brought here?” Doctor Gabe asked, and Jessica nodded.

“Do you mind telling me?”

Jessica recounted all that had happened that day. Doctor Gabe and Mia sighed satisfactorily.

“Everything you said is in line,” Doctor Gabe said, “But I have more questions. Do you remember what day it is?”

“Thursday?” Jessica asked.

“Wonderful,” Doctor Gabe ticking off something on a clipboard.

“What’s your name, miss?” Mia asked, folding her arms.

“Jessica,” She answered, but the two doctors looked at her as if she hadn’t answered their question, then she added, “Jessica West.”

“Perfect,” said Mia.

“How did you know that’s my name?” Jessica asked, “Who brought me here?”

“Someone at the scene called an ambulance, and we got you here. But we retrieved your ID and driver’s license, that’s how we got your name,” Mia answered.

“No one came looking for me?” Jessica asked.

“Oh, actually, two men came looking for you yesterday, but you weren’t awake,” Mia answered.

A phone rang out from Doctor Gabe’s pocket. He took it out, checked the screen, and said, “Oh, shit. Excuse me. I have to leave now,” He said and left in a hurry.

“Two men?” Jessica asked.

“Jerome Cage and Xavier Cage. They’re currently waiting to see you right now. You know them, don’t you?” Mia raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah, I do,” Jessica answered bitterly.

Why the hell would Xavier come visiting her? After everything he had done to her.

“I’m sorry I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Mia.”

“Cool,” Jennifer replied coldly.

“I’m glad you didn’t sustain any internal injuries. Head-on collision victims aren’t usually as lucky as you are,” Mia smiled, “How’s your head? Does it hurt?”

Jessica remembered that she had hit her head hard on the steering wheel. Then she realized that her forehead was bandaged too, though it didn’t hurt her that much.

“It doesn’t hurt that much,” She answered.

“Okay, good. I’ll send in a nurse for a check-up later, how’s that?” Mia smiled at her warmly, “And you must be starving, what would you like to eat? You’re a fan of burgers?”

“Yeah,” Jessica smiled back.

“My kid would never eat burgers even at gunpoint. I mean, who in the world hates burgers?” Mia laughed.

“Weird people do,” Jessica laughed too, “Sorry to say,” she added.

“Yeah, you’re absolutely right. My kid is a weird one. He hates burgers, but he could eat a whole box of pizza if he had the chance. He’s just ten,” Mia said.

“Then he’s not completely weird. Completely weird people don’t eat both pizza and burgers,” Jessica said.

“I know, right,” Mia laughed, “So, I’m going to send your visitors in right away. You’re in good condition to see them, aren’t you?”

Jessica was tempted to say no, but she ended up nodding.

“Great. I also think you need the company. I would’ve stayed here with you, but unfortunately, I have urgent things to take care of. I promise I’ll be back soon,” Mia said, “Take care of yourself, yeah?”

“I will,” Jessica nodded again and watched as Mia left the room.

About ten minutes later, the door opened again, and Jerome Cage walked in, looking very elegant in his obviously expensive tuxedo. He was wearing a big smile and holding flowers.
