The Lawyer (The Dalton Brothers #1)(10)
Author: Marni Mann

My arms dropped, my foot bouncing in the air after I crossed my legs. “Why are you telling me this?”

“When I sat at that conference table, the chance of being James’s agent dangling right in front of me, I had the same goddamn look on my face as you did when Kendall was sitting next to you.”

“What are you trying to say?”

“Brother, it takes one to know one, and I saw that shit coming from a mile away.” He took a drink of his coffee. “Kendall was the girl in the green dress, the one I assume you took to your hotel room last night?”

When we were on this side of the industry, we all played by the same rules. Brett was the first in our group to break one, and it had worked out for him, but most didn’t, and he was trying to warn me.

I sighed. “I didn’t know she was Daisy’s sister until our meeting this morning.”

His feet dropped to the floor, and he leaned his arms over his desk. “It’s too late to tell you not to do it, but I can tell you, this could end badly if it continues.”

“Continues? You know me better than that.” I laughed. “Hit it, quit it—or in this case, work for it. But nothing more besides business will ever happen between Kendall and me—I assure you of that.”

His hand went to his face, like he was going to cough, but a long, deep chuckle came out instead. “Fool, who do you think you’re talking to? Do you really think I fucking believe that?”

“Why wouldn’t you?”

His eyes narrowed. “I saw the way you were looking at her. You were doing everything in your power not to throw her across my desk.”

He wasn’t wrong.

I couldn’t stop thinking about that fucking body. I could practically feel her under my fingertips, taste her skin on my tongue.

But things had changed.

She was soon going to be a client, and that was something I wouldn’t mess with.

“Not going to happen, man.” I shook my head to emphasize the point. “Trust me.”

He tapped his fist on the wood. “What do you want to put on it?”

“Your plane.”

He laughed again. “It’s a bet I’m not going to lose, so why don’t you tell me what I’ll get if I win?”

“Name your prize—one of my cars, a trip to fucking Fiji, a hundred grand, whatever you want.”

He stretched his hand in my direction. “You’ve got yourself a deal.” Once we shook, he added, “Now, get your ass out of here and go read her contract. We’ve got a new fucking client to sign.”

“Was your day as crazy as mine?” my brother Jenner asked from the other side of the small table where we sat on the far side of the bar.

I lifted my dirty martini up to my lips, skipping the sip for a large gulp. “You have no fucking idea.” I returned the glass to its place in front of me, wrapping my hand around the thin stem. “I was in a meeting with Daisy Roy. Her sister, who happens to be her assistant, walked in late, and I offered her a reality show on the spot.”

“How did Daisy react to that?”

Even my brother, who had nothing to do with the entertainment side of our firm, knew of her reputation.

“Exactly the way you’d expect.” I huffed. “Did I mention, her sister is the girl I brought to the hotel room last night?”

“You dirty fucking dog, you.”

“Man, she’s fucking perfect. An incredibly sick body, a face that needs no makeup. Kind, charismatic”—I paused to groan—“and she can ride some mean cock.”

“Perfect for the show”—his eyes narrowed—“or for you?”

“Jesus, you and Brett are fucking relentless. For the show, dickhead.”

“All right, I’ll semi-accept that. Are we sure Daisy hasn’t gutted her yet, turning this into a true crime special?”

I laughed, finishing the rest of my drink, and the waitress immediately swung by to ask if we wanted another round.

“Keep ’em coming,” I told her.

The moment she left our table, a flash of movement from several feet away caught my attention. It was a girl, tossing her hair over her shoulder, the long, thick waves stirring a night full of memories in my head. The same locks I had wrapped around my wrist and pulled down her back, exposing her neck. With Kendall’s profile now facing me, my gaze lowered, remembering those pouty, thick lips I had gently gnawed.

“No shit,” I uttered mostly to myself as I noticed the guy sitting next to her.

His glossy lipstick and painted nails were signs that told me they weren’t on a date.

I looked at my brother. “I can assure you, she’s very much alive.” I pointed toward her table. “That happens to be her right there.”

“Damn, you weren’t kidding. That girl’s a fucking knockout.” He winked. “It’s too bad you got to her first.”

Ignoring his smart-ass comment, I took in the angles of her neck, the way her top showed her amazing tits, her beautiful, long legs that had locked around my waist, keeping me deep inside her pussy.

“Mark my words … she’s going to be a fucking star.”

I hadn’t even closed my mouth yet when Kendall glanced across the bar, her stare slowly skimming the space between us until it finally landed on me.

Dominick, she mouthed, the surprise clear in her eyes.

She looked at her friend and said something to him, and now, both were gazing at me.

I mouthed, Come here, and waved her over.

Only about twelve hours had passed since I’d brought her into Brett’s office, and the studio was still mulling over the new salary we had counteroffered them, so I didn’t know what I would say to her. I just knew I needed her closer. To see that mouth puckered around a straw, to picture my cock sliding into it. To see if her nipples hardened when she got near me, if her skin flushed, if a thin layer of sweat would rise, the same way it had when she milked my dick last night.

As she walked over, skintight leather pants revealed the curves of her hips, the outline of her thighs, the thick gap between them. The tank top she had on was small and snug, each step telling me she didn’t have on a bra.

My dick was already hard, screaming to be inside her.

“Hi,” she said as she reached me. “This is my friend Charlize.” She looked at Charlize and added, “This is my lawyer, Dominick, and …”

“Jenner,” my brother said, introducing himself, shaking their hands.

“Nice to meet you,” I said to Charlize as he lightly clasped my hand. Once he released me, I called over the waitress and said, “A round of shots—make them strong—and refills for whatever they’re having.” I pointed at Kendall and Charlize, so she would know who I was referring to.

“Skinny margaritas for both of us,” Kendall told the waitress. She then looked at me. “Thank you. You really didn’t have to do that, but we certainly appreciate it.”

“What do you mean? We have something to celebrate tonight.”

Her smile reached her eyes. “I’m still in total shock. I thought it would wear off or that the tequila would tame it a little.” She shook her head. “But it hasn’t. At all.”
