Wet (Diamondback MC Book 4)(9)
Author: Tory Baker

“Oh, please, she carries more shit than Sadie has in a diaper bag and purse combined,” I reply.

“Not anymore.” He arches his eyebrow in that way you know not to question him again. Ugh, men.

“I know, I know. I’m not usually this unorganized, but I was talking to Hunter this morning and threw everything inside my bag when I realized the time. I didn’t want to be late. You’re right though. I’ll organize my crap.” Finally hearing the jingle, I grab the keys and show them to Razor.

“Fuckin’ finally.” He walks off, shaking his head, chuckling. I roll my eyes, open my car door, and follow Razor to my home away from home.

Cannon

“Pleasure doing business with you, Cannon, Bennett,” Nikolai tells me. He’s the Capo to Vladmir Volkov, the Russian Mafia we’ve been dealing with. I’d like to say I got some shuteye last night and that my plans with Monroe came to fruition. Sadly, they fuckin’ didn’t. Instead, the few minutes we got to talk was her apologizing like she did something wrong. As fuckin’ if. My call waitin’ interrupted those minutes, and I had to get off the phone without hearing her get off, to talk to Shovel, Razor, and Ruger. Talk about a boner killer. Ruger still couldn’t figure out who sent those flowers, even with the florist’s name. The owner was no help saying a gentleman walked in, paid cash, and she didn’t have shit for security cameras.

“Likewise.” Bennett did his recon early this morning at the hotel Nikolai and his brigadiers were staying at. Vladmir likes to stay unseen unless he’s dealing with Shovel or Razor. Bennett didn’t find anything, making sure they didn’t bring more men than was stated beforehand. We got here two hours before Nikolai was supposed to and went over every single crate of illegal guns with a fine-tooth comb. Now we have the money we’re after, and they have what they want.

Bennett and I watch as Nikolai gets into his car after we helped them load the crates, a shit job in this hot-as-fuck weather, but it’s fuckin’ done. Hopefully, we won’t have to see them again so soon. This being away from Monroe even for a day sucks, never mind the nine-hour drive on a bike.

“You ready?” Bennett asks. I nod my head. Monroe said she was going to call out of work today to alleviate the men having to follow her thirty minutes into work only for them to have to make the same trek when she got out. There was no way that was a good idea with her still being a newer employee. That’s why since she wasn’t going in until eleven and getting off at eight, I knew as soon as this deal went down, I was on my way home. And it’s gonna be a long as fuck day, but it’ll be worth it. The plus side of meeting her at the hospital besides seein’ her is findin’ out who has the balls to mess with my woman. Fuck, even if they don’t know she’s mine, they damn sure know Monroe is Doc’s daughter.

“Fuck, yeah.” We locked up the building after we brought the crates out. The money is in my saddle bag. It’ll be nice once Bennett’s finally patched in, then I won’t be stoppin’ at the club before getting to the hospital.

“We gonna try and make this ride shorter than nine hours?” Seeing how it’s getting on close to ten, he already knows the answer.

“Yep.” I straddle the only other lady I have in my life. Bennett does the same. No words need to be stated. He knows enough. It’s just a formality and one that I know will be rectified tonight.

Monroe

“See you next week, Marnie,” I tell her as we veer off, both of us heading for our separate cars. When I got to work today, I was scheduled to work with her on the same floor. The flowers were still looming over me, and as much as I thought about throwing them away, I knew a few patients who could really use something to make them smile. So, during my lunch break, instead of taking the full hour to eat, drink coffee, and scroll mindlessly on my phone, I broke down the bouquet, made them into as many mini arrangements as I could, and delivered them to different patients on various floors. Marnie thought I was cuckoo until I told her they weren’t from Hunter, then she made sure to settle in to help.

“Later, honey,” she responds. My keys are in my hand, cell phone in my scrub top, readily available. I’d like to say sleeping at the clubhouse last night sucked, but it didn’t. Instead of being relegated to my dad’s room like I would have only a week ago, Razor handed me the keys to Hunter’s, and that’s where I slept like a baby.

“Hey, Monroe.” Jeremy comes out of nowhere, stopping me in my tracks, hand to my chest, trying to stop my heart from beating out of it.

“Hi, Jeremy, where’d you come from?” I look around for the ambulance, but I’m not seeing one.

“Taking a break. Hey, I wanted to ask you a question.”

“Oh, okay.” Just then, there’s a sound only an MC princess would know and love, the kind you can pick out at any rally known to man when you’ve grown up around them. That being Hunter’s bike. I watch as he parks it behind my car. The way his body moves as he climbs off his bike, hair windblown and his normal slicked-back faux hawk is hanging down near his shoulders, the growth along his jawline leading me to believe he hasn’t shaved in well over a few days, I freaking love it. He’s wearing a dark cotton shirt, cut with the Diamondback MC emblem on the back and snake coiling around it at the bottom, where it states his position in the club, and I know on the front his name is hand stitched too, jeans lighter than they once were because they’re years old and fit him in just the right places.

“Trouble.” The deep rasp of his tone has me leaving Jeremy and running to Hunter. I leap into his arms, legs wrapping around his waist, and our lips land on each other’s.

“Hunter,” I moan in between the way he’s sucking on my lower lip, his hands gripping my ass through the thin layer of scrubs I’m wearing.

“I like the way you greet your man, Monroe.” We quit kissing, and I slide down the front of his body feeling his hard cock.

“I’m glad my man greeted me.” I completely forgot about Jeremy. “Oh, I’m sorry. Jeremy, this is Hunter, my boyfriend. Hunter, this is Jeremy. He’s a paramedic who comes in from time to time.”

“Nice to meet you, Hunter.” Jeremy holds his hand out to shake Hunter’s, but he doesn’t take it. Instead, his arm bands around my waist, bringing me in closer as he nods his head. Hunter doesn’t say a word. I guess we’re peeing around my feet and being territorial today.

“I’ll see you around, Monroe.” My eyes swing back from Hunter’s to Jeremy’s as I attempt to hold my tongue but know my face is giving it all away. So, I stand with Hunter until Jeremy is out of sight. When I’m practically bubbling over with annoyance, I’m interrupted.

“Not bein’ rude, but, babe, that man has got a hard-on for you a mile wide. Didn’t like the way his eyes were locked on your ass even when it was in my hands. I’m just lettin’ him know in the best way possible he doesn’t stand a fuckin’ chance. You get me?” Shit, I never gave Jeremy any inkling that I’ve ever seen anything in him besides a work friendship.
