Chaos(8)
Author: J.B. Trepagnier

This fucking cat. He looked me dead in the eye as his paw came out and toppled all my cookies onto the floor. He assaulted my Oreos for no reason, and it wasn’t like I could hurt her familiar without losing Ripley. I’d never hurt an animal, anyway.

Still, a lesson needed to be taught. One that wouldn’t cause an ounce of pain but would remind him every day not to fuck with me. I flicked my wrist and hit him with a bit of magic. He let out this screeching yowl and bolted for Ripley.

That cat was going to rat me out, but it had to be done. It was funny. Even Ripley could admit that when she saw how I upgraded her familiar.

Ripley

I

could hear Felix’s cry of distress from across the library. I asked him to check on Chaos for me because I had two wolves in here asking for books on their pack history. The whole ancestry craze with the humans was also a thing with the supernatural community, and this was a common request now, but digging up if we had specific books on packs, clans, or covens always took a lot of research.

I dropped what I was doing and took off running for the fiction section. I swear, if that god hurt my cat, I would figure out how to get him back into the aether if it killed me. Felix met me in the middle and jumped straight into my arms. He was shaking in terror, but he didn’t seem to have a mark on him.

I stomped over to Chaos’s favorite couch and glared at him. He was just sprawled on the sofa with a book in his lap like he hadn’t just terrorized my familiar.

“What did you do to Felix?” I demanded.

“He assaulted my cookies, so I taught him a lesson. I didn’t hurt him. I upgraded him. If you actually look at him, you’ll see his unharmed.”

“He had the cookies stacked so precisely on the plate like it was a work of art. I’m still a cat. I couldn’t help it. I knocked them over.”

I sighed and held him to my chest.

“You’re lucky I even let you have those in here. Felix is a cat. Cats knock things off tables. You can’t hurt my cat every time he knocks something over. He does that to me too.”

Chaos just smirked at me.

“But I didn’t hurt your cat. You haven’t even looked.”

I pulled Felix away from my chest and looked at him. Felix was always inky black, but now he had white fur on his face. White hair that was oddly in the shape of…

“Did you put a cock on my cat’s face?”

Felix wailed.

“Make him change me back! I cannot have my fur form a cock!”

Chaos was just smirking like he gave both of us this enormous gift putting a dick on my cat’s face.

“I don’t hurt animals, my witch, and I’d never hurt your familiar; but your cat needs to learn not to bother my things. Besides, I enjoy looking at him now. It’s an upgrade.”

“You’re older than the universe. Grow up and take this cock off my cat’s face!”

Chaos just frowned at me.

“You mean you don’t find it amusing?”

I actually would have if it weren’t Felix, and I was trying not to laugh that it was him. If you’ve never seen a cat look utterly mortified that it now had a dick on his face, it was fucking funny. Except I barely knew Chaos, and Felix had been with me for a long time, so in this matter, I was totally #teamfelix.

“He’s sorry, and he won’t mess with your stuff again. If he feels the urge to do something cat-like, he’ll do it with my stuff.”

“This cat means a lot to you, doesn’t he,” Chaos said, his face softening.

“He’s my familiar. He’s been with me since I was a teenager. He doesn’t like this upgrade. I know he bothered your cookies, but will you please just change him back?”

Chaos just beamed at me like a light bulb went off above his head.

“I know the perfect upgrade!”

I was about to argue that Felix didn’t need any more upgrades, and we both just wanted him to go back to a black cat when Felix suddenly weighed a million pounds. I couldn’t help dropping him. My eyes flickered to Chaos, who was watching me like he was waiting for me to open a Solstice gift, then my gaze went to the floor.

I was expecting to see some horrifically mutated cat, but there was now a naked man on the floor of the erotica section in the middle of the Library of the Profane. Felix rose to his feet and appeared to be patting down his body to make sure he felt things right.

Okay, human Felix was gorgeous. He was easily six foot two with ebony skin and long dreadlocks. He still had the same bright green eyes. I snapped my fingers and conjured him some clothes.

“Felix? Are you okay?”

He just shook his head.

“This is my body, Ripley. This is me when I was younger before I died!”

“You can turn into the cat if you want, but you’ll still have the dick on your face. I’m sorry, but I like looking at it,” Chaos said.

Felix held up his palm and conjured a small flame.

“I still have my fucking magic. This is amazing.”

I know Chaos did this because he thought he was giving me a gift. I was happy for Felix that he had a body again except I just lost my familiar. He had a life before he died and came back as a cat. He would want to get back to it now that he could. I wouldn’t stop him.

I smiled at him sadly and pulled him into a hug.

“I’m happy for you, Felix. I’ll miss you.”

He just frowned at me.

“I’m not going anywhere. Something major is happening, Ripley. I can protect you better like this. If I can still turn into the cat, then I can still spy in the library.”

“What about your family?”

“I died a long time ago, Ripley. All my family is now dead. You’re my family now. I’m not leaving.”

I flung my arms around his neck and squeezed him. I looked past his shoulder to Chaos, who was just watching all of this with a serene smile on his face. I could give credit where credit was due. This was a tremendous gift, and Chaos did it because he thought it would make me happy.

It did, and Chaos got a few more bonus points with me.

Chapter 12

Felix

I

couldn’t believe I was whole again. With just a flick of his wrist. I had been a powerful warlock. Ripley was a hell of a witch, or I wouldn’t have been called as her familiar. I’d seen Ripley and her twin sister Ravyn do some fantastic magic when they still lived at home and then again when they were roommates at the Academy of the Profane. Ravyn’s familiar was a bat. Still, there wasn’t a witch or warlock alive that could restore a familiar to their mortal form.

It irritated me the god took offense at me being a cat with his fucking cookies and put a cock in my fur, but I had to thank him now. Even if he left the dick there when I decided to go back to the cat.

It was easy to shift into the cat and painless, unlike the shifters. I just thought about it, and it happened. I thought it again, and I was back to my human form. I had one thing in common with the shifters, though. My clothes didn’t change with me. I had to fight my way out of a pile of clothes when I turned into the cat, and I was nude when I switched back; and I caught Ripley peeking.

Ripley might be an anal-retentive librarian, but she’d always been a sexual person. She certainly didn’t dress like the previous librarian here. The librarian Ripley took over for probably showered in a Victorian looking bathing suit because she didn’t think you should be naked at any point in time.
