Wonderboy Love(8)
Author: Brynn Hale

Henry steps away from me and a feeling of confusion clouds my head. Maybe he just wanted to get me here to crush me? No. That’s not it. Stop thinking that everything will go bad. This is it. Just trust.

“First…” He walks to Hayden and in a swift raise of his fist he punches his brother in the nose, blood swiftly runs to his chin.

“What the fuck?” Hayden spits out, looking up from his place on his knees.

“That’s for how you treated Eliza and for what you put Meg through.” Henry lifts Hayden by the back of his shirt and tie. “It’s time for you to leave.”

Henry pushes Hayden out the door and security hauls him off, kicking and screaming like a two-year old.

I lean back into a corner of the room. The comfort of the walls pulling me into the ninety-degrees even further.

Henry explains what happened and what Hayden did to Eliza. Mr. Zervas shaking his head through every sordid detail.

Mr. Zervas crosses his arms on his chest. “Does this mean that you’re going to take the position, Henry?” There’s hope in his voice.

Henry shakes his head. “No. I’m not meant to be here. I’m meant to help people on the outside with the support of those who mean the most to me.” He crosses the room with long quick strides. “Like the woman I love.”

Mr. Zervas chuckles. “You have an idea of who might be the right fit for CEO?”

Henry slips his hands into mine. “I do. Miss Eliza Reynolds from finance.”

I suck in a quick breath.

Mr. Zervas nods. “She was my second choice, even over your brother, much to his dismay.”

And that explains so much. He was trying to take out two birds with one USB stone.

Eliza got swept away by an asswipe. It happens. I know. She trusted, and I admire that. She’s the real leader.

“What do you want, Henry?” Mr. Zervas asks.

“First, I want this woman to help me hand out kites tonight. And then I want her to move in with me.” He presses his lips to mine softly and whispers, “Because I want this woman, forever.”

My body chills and my gaze connects to his. “Forever?”

Henry lowers his head toward me. “Trust me...” It’s not a demand, it’s a plea with so much hope.

“Forever.”

His lips claim mine and my soul is complete. He has mended what was crumbled inside of me.

Mr. Zervas turns to the board. “You heard him. Let’s get Miss Reynolds in here.”

I slide my fingers in those wonderful golden waves. “Wonderboy, I love you.”

Henry’s lips graze my ear and goose bumps roll over my skin. “Let’s go show each other how much.”

Wonderboy love is a wonderful love.

Epilogue

Henry

Meg hands me the end of the string of hearts.

Valentine’s Day is now one of my favorite days at the community center. The kids are excited for the party this afternoon.

Meg has a booming jewelry business on the internet, but we also work together here at the center. Maybe some people couldn’t do it, but we make it work. I’m not saying there aren’t days that we walk home in silence because we’ve pissed the other off, but I’m just saying that making up is kind of fun.

We watch Ghibli movies for date nights, ordering in food and snuggling on the couch. We fly kites on the weekends and I made her one in the shape of a crown like the one that was in her hair that night that I met her.

Hayden apologized for what he did, but my father still wouldn’t let him back in. He lives in Hawaii being the arm-candy gigolo for affluent women. They’re getting what they want without the ties and Hayden’s getting the lavish lifestyle he wants without the emotional ties, too. It seems he’s hit a niche market.

I adjust my pants as what’s in my pocket pokes me.

Meg chuckles. “Got a problem below the belt, Mr. Zervas?’

I really don’t know how to answer. I’m both okay and I’m not. There’s something I need to do and my heart jumps in my chest every time I think about doing it.

Her hand grabs my leg when I finish. “You’ve been quiet all day. I think…I think I know what’s wrong. We need to talk, Henry.” She walks away and I swear that those hips have a new sway to them. I step down from the ladder before I fall off from being awestruck.

Meg Devlin definitely has a little she-devil in her—and damn does it come out in the bedroom. There’ve been a few days when I thought we’d just go to sleep, but some way, somehow we end up in each other’s arms. That pull too much for either of us. It’s a need of our souls to combine and make sure the other is still there. I’ve come to crave her.

And I was going to wait until we were surrounded by the kids to take the next step in our relationship, but clearly we need to do this right now.

She walks into my office and sits in my chair. She blows out a long breath and I see an exhaustion in her I’ve never seen.

I lean over her. “You okay?”

Her eyes water and she shakes her head.

My concern ratchets. “Baby, what’s wrong? Remember, no lies.”

“This isn’t a lie. It’s too real, Henry and I hope it’s something good.”

I drop to my knees and pull her body to me, just like that first morning in my apartment. “Hey, there’s nothing we can’t overcome together. I’m here for you. What is it?”

“Surprise, I’m pregnant,” she whispers in my ear.

I lean back. “Really?”

“Yeah, a little wonderboy or wondergirl in a little less than eight months.”

Perfect.

“I was going to do this tonight and might have to reenact a performance because the kids really wanted to see it.” I reach into my pocket and pull out a ring. “Megan Devlin Harris, will you add Zervas to that string of surnames and make me the happiest man in the world?”

“You healed my soul, Henry Zervas, and every day I try to be a better woman for you.”

“Is that a yes?”

Her eyes light like the stars in the heavens.

“Yes. Absolutely, positively, yes, Wonderboy.”

I slide the ring on her finger to hear cheering behind us from Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln. They’ve become our best volunteers.

“Nicely done, Henry and congratulations,” Mr. Lincoln gives a nod and guides Mrs. Lincoln off with him after pulling the door shut.

The amethyst and diamond ring sparkles like her eyes.

And it’s a perfect fit.

Every single second of my life is perfect with my half princess and half she-devil.

Love Like a Warrior

Milana

Moving to a brand-new city for a brand-new job is thrilling . . . and terrifying. Nothing is familiar, I’m a shy person, so it’d be too easy for me to just do two things: go to work and hide at home.

But I’ve been studying martial arts for a long time, and it’s my happy place. So I’m thrilled when I discover a huge dojo two blocks from my new place.
