Cowboy Bikers MC #10(13)
Author: Esther E. Schmidt

“What the hell do you think you’re doing here?” she snaps.

My phone rings and I ignore it to face Pierre who starts to plead with my woman. “Fenna, who are these people? I only wanted to swing by and talk to you. Can we have a private moment? We need to discuss–”

“Not that it’s any of your business but these people? They are my friends. They belong here and you don’t. I have absolutely nothing to say to you nor do we have anything to discuss.” She throws a look over her shoulder at me while my phone keeps ringing. “See that man over there? He’s mine and not only is he sharing my bed, we share the same mindset along with future ambitions we’re already working hard on to make them successful. There is nothing for you and I to reminisce about. We’re over, we were the second I caught you cheating.”

She spins on her heel but Pierre reaches out for her. “Please, Fenna, you can’t do this.”

Dinand places a hand on the fucker’s chest but it’s gone when Fenna whirls around and shoves Pierre back. “Please, Fenna? Really? I’m the one who shouldn’t do this?” There’s a low growl coming from her throat before she adds, “I know why you’re here, Pierre. Money. And don’t deny it either. I know about the loan you took out to make a deposit on another apartment, thinking you could create a little love shack to fuck your piece on the side. Or was I the piece on the side?” Her nose scrunches up. “Never mind, don’t answer that. Like I said, we’re done. This was a wasted trip and as you can see, I’ve moved on with a man who makes me feel as if I’m worthy without any effort. It only shows you and I were never going to work.”

Her chest is rising and falling and all of us are stunned into silence. Dinand is standing next to Fenna and I notice Spiro along with the prospect, Peri, are stalking our way. They were watching the back of the house and must have heard the turmoil of voices. My phone starts ringing again and this time I answer when I see it’s Decker who is calling.

“Her ex is headed your way,” he grunts.

“Already here, already dealing with the fucker. Thanks for the heads up,” I tell him with a load of sarcasm.

“Fuck. Well, he’s harmless but I also have to tell you the prospect who had eyes on Kayla lost sight of her when he took a piss. Could be nothing since they were laying low but who the fuck knows.”

“Dammit,” I grumble and scan my surroundings.

“FBI sent a team, they arrived this morning at the clubhouse and wanted to go over everything we had,” Decker informs me.

I sigh into my phone, getting annoyed with the whole situation. “Didn’t you send them all the information we had?”

“Sure did, but you know how these things work…talking to everyone involved is a necessity.”

“They should talk to those two fuckers who hurt Fenna and damaged her property,” I growl low as I watch Pierre walk back to his car.

“It’s on their to-do-list,” Decker mutters.

“The ex is leaving, gotta go,” I snap when I see Fenna stomping my way.

“I’ll tell Prez about the situation with the ex and have some more guys come your way just in case he returns.” I don’t reply to him but hang up and fall in step right next to Fenna as she heads toward the house.

“Everything okay?” I question.

“Dandy,” she grumbles and whips her head my way. “Did you see his reaction when I mentioned the money? That’s why he was here, I’m sure. Not because he loved me or wanted me back. Noooooo, money. What in the ever-loving-hell did I see in that man?”

“Hey.” I reach out and catch her around the waist. “It’s a good thing that fucker screwed up, otherwise I wouldn’t have you right here where you belong.”

Fenna laughs and playfully smacks my chest. “Leave it to you to throw a twist on this craziness.”

I shrug. “It’s the truth.”

Taking her lips in a kiss, she quickly melts into me and I feel fucking great we’re able to put everything on hold and simply catch an intimate moment between the two of us. Pulling back, I take in her bruised lips and dazed look.

“Come on, let’s fix all of us something to eat and then we’ll see about making you a website and some flyers and business cards and so on,” I suggest. “Focus on the good things and leave the past where it is: behind us.”

We enter the house while Spiro, Dinand, and Peri are talking out front. A chill runs over me and I’m instantly on edge. From the corner of my eye, I notice someone standing near the living room with a gun in hand and it’s enough for me to roughly shove Fenna out the door and lock it behind her.

“What the fuck are you doing here, Kayla?” I snap, hopefully hard enough for Fenna to hear so she can inform my brothers.

“We have to talk,” Kayla whispers in a pained voice and I now notice the gun is shaking in her hand.

“What about?” I ask, trying to add softness to my voice to keep a handle on the situation but my blood is boiling with anger.

Her eyes slide out the window and she mutters, “I’m sorry,” right before gunshots blast through the air. Some bullets hit the house and I’m left to take cover, just like Kayla who squats down behind the couch.

My heart is slamming against my rib cage, fear gripping my soul to so much as think about what the hell just happened outside. Everyone was standing there, sitting ducks until someone fired bullets at them.

Taking advantage of Kayla squatting behind the couch, I grab my phone and hit the call back button, the connection with Decker is instant and I shove the thing in the front of my shirt pocket to reach for my gun. This way he’s able to hear what the fuck is going down and hopefully get help here fast.

“Put the gun down, Kayla or I will fucking shoot you,” I warn.

Another round of bullets being fired rings out from outside.

“It wouldn’t matter,” Kayla says with a pained voice. “They all have to go, don’t you see? There is no other way.”

“What the fuck is she rambling about?” I mutter to no one in particular, hating the fact I locked the door so I can’t go outside in one smooth move or see what’s happening outside.

I take a quick peek around the wall I’m hiding behind and notice part of her leg and hands coming from behind the couch. I debate shooting straight through it to take her out but the gunfire coming from outside draws my attention.

My woman is out there along with a few of my brothers. I’m sure August is the one shooting at them and I’m wondering what the fuck is taking my brothers so long to take out one guy. Thank fuck Decker mentioned he was sending over a few guys and I hope to fuck they get here soon.

I’m getting ready to fire at Kayla so I can make my escape outside. Fucking hell, if I knew shit was going to go crazy out there I would have never pushed Fenna back out. I thought I was protecting her by getting her out of the house when I saw Kayla.

I move to glance at Kayla–making sure she’s still in the same spot–when there’s a blinding pain flaring inside my head as my world goes black.

– FENNA –

“I can’t,” I choke, my voice sounds weak and pathetic but the pain slicing through my shoulder, arm, and leg is becoming too much to bear.
