“And whom I choose to see is none of yours,” she said as I could feel her body tremble.

I slid my tongue across her neck as she tilted her head to the side and let out a light moan. My fingers unclasped her bra, and I took it off and tossed it on the floor. Grabbing each of her breasts, I gasped at the fullness of them. Her moans heightened as I took her hardened peaks between my fingers.

“I think you need to make it up to me for ruining my night.”

“I guess I do. I’ve been a very bad girl.”

I didn’t think my cock could get any harder. After taking down her panties, I ran my fingers across her sensitive area. She was soaking wet and ready for me. After taking down my pants, I thrust into her from behind as her knee rested on the scooter. We both gasped at the pleasure as she gripped the edge of the dresser. Pounding in and out of her, she orgasmed quickly causing my cock to spasm with delight and I exploded inside her.

“Ah,” I moaned as I pushed deep inside and pressed my lips against her bare shoulder.

When I was finished, I pulled out of her and pulled up my pants.

“I’ll see you in the morning,” I said as I walked out of her room and out of her apartment.

As soon as I stepped out of the elevator and into my penthouse, I poured myself a scotch and took it out on the terrace as I leaned on the railing and stared out into the brightly lit city. I wasn’t sure if our friendship was working out. She had no right to do what she did, and it really pissed me off. After finishing my drink, I went back down to her apartment and knocked on the door.

“Hey,” she said as she opened the door. “Is everything okay?”

“No. Things are not okay, Jenna,” I sternly spoke as I stepped inside her apartment. “I think from now on we need to keep our relationship strictly professional. You’re my employee and that’s all you need to be.”

“You’re still pissed about Melanie, I take it.”

“Damn right I am. You had no right.”

“You’re right, Lucas, and I’m sorry. It won’t happen again.”

“Damn right it won’t. My personal business is none of yours. Do you understand me?”

“Yes. I understand.”

“Good,” I said as I walked out of her apartment.

I climbed into bed, and as I laid there, I thought about everything Lucas had said. What did I expect? A lifelong friendship with my baby daddy? A man who didn’t even want to know his child, let alone be a father. Everyone had turned their backs on me, and he wasn’t any different. If he was serious and wanted to keep our relationship strictly professional, then fine. Strictly professional is what it would be. I never should have agreed to work for him, but I felt as if I had no choice. I was desperate, and I had the baby to think about. All I needed was to get through this pregnancy. Plus, I couldn’t stay in this apartment forever. It wouldn’t be right running into Lucas all the time with the baby. This job was only temporary and after the baby was born, I would leave New York and move somewhere warm all year around, and I would buy a house on the beach for me and my child. Lucas wanting to keep our relationship strictly professional now sealed the deal for me. I felt a pain in my heart when I thought about him and our conversation earlier. Maybe I was wrong to do what I did, but there was a tiny part of me that was jealous.

Chapter 16

Two Weeks Later

Jenna

As I stood in the shower, I rubbed the bump that formed in my belly practically overnight. When I finished showering, I went to my closet and took out one of the skirts I wore to work. As I pulled it up to my waist and tried to button it, it wouldn’t even come close. Shit. I struggled, and when I finally managed to get it buttoned, the button popped off and landed on the floor. I let out a long sigh as I tried to figure out what I was going to do. In the back of my closet was a grey jersey blend swing dress that I had bought over a year ago and only wore a couple of times. It would have to do for today. After work, and after my appointment to get my cast off, I’d have to go shopping for some new clothes.

I’d barely talked to Lucas the past couple of weeks. Whenever we did speak, it was nothing more than work related. He seemed a little cold towards me, and I didn’t appreciate it. But if acting that way made him happy, then so be it. Jerk.

When I walked into the break room to grab a cup of coffee, I saw him standing at the counter pouring himself a cup. Walking over to the cabinet, I opened it and grabbed my mug.

“Good morning.” He glanced over at me as he held the pot in his hand.

“Morning.”

He poured some coffee in my cup and then looked me up and down.

“Is something wrong?”

“No. I’ve just never seen you wear that dress before.”

“I know it’s too casual for the office, but I had no choice. Nothing else fits me anymore.” I placed my hand on my belly and showed him the bump.

“Ah. Looks like you need to go shopping.”

“I do and I am,” I said as I took my cup and walked out of the break room.

When I sat down at my desk, I looked up and saw Lucas leaning against the door frame holding his cup of coffee.

“Can I help you?” I arched my brow at him.

“I need you to be here all day tomorrow.”

“Okay. Any particular reason?”

“My father is flying in tonight, and he’ll be here all day tomorrow.”

“Have you told him about the baby?”

“No. Of course not. He’s never to know.”

“Alright. My lips are sealed.”

“Thank you.” He gave me a slight nod as he turned and walked down the hallway.

I rolled my eyes the moment he walked away. His father was flying in. Interesting. I wondered why. I finished up what needed to be done before noon, grabbed my purse and headed to get my cast off. The cab dropped me off about a block away due to an accident that had traffic backed up beyond belief. I didn’t care because I was getting this damn thing off anyway. As I was hobbling down the street, my eyes widened as I saw Bri coming towards me.

“Jenna?” She stopped when she saw me.

“Hey, Bri,” I spoke in an uncomfortable tone.

“My God. How are you?” She reached over and hugged me.

Breaking our embrace, she gripped my shoulders as she looked down at my belly.

“First things first, what happened to your foot?”

“I broke it. It’s a long story.”

“Are you pregnant? She placed her hand on my belly.

“I am.” I smiled uncomfortably.

“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me. Why the hell wouldn’t you tell me? Who’s the father?”

Was she serious?

“I tried, but you were too busy letting your controlling boyfriend control you and our friendship,” I spat.

“I’m sorry, Jenna. It’s just—”

“It’s just nothing, Bri.” I started to walk away.

“I miss you!” She shouted.

“I miss you too. You can call me sometime when your douchebag boyfriend allows it.” I walked away and headed to the building where the doctor was located.
