Demon Loved (Darkest Flames Book 2)(5)
Author: Katie May

Or, in this case, the other coin.

“Let’s make it a bet, shall we?” I nod towards the coin resting in the palm of my hand. “Heads, we do what I want to do. Tails, I’ll leave you to…” I make a face. “School.”

“Okay, fine. I’ll accept that.” She raises her chin ever so slightly, just enough to give her an imperious aura that makes me want to rut into her like I’m some sort of sex demon. “But I want to be heads.”

“What the lady wants, she shall get…” Keeping my eyes on her cherubic, slightly flushed face, I toss the coin in the air.

And watch it fall.

Time seems to slow as we both hold our breaths, waiting, waiting, waiting. I’d like to believe that a diminutive part of Katrina hopes it’ll land on tails, just so she can spend more time with me. That same part is a lovesick fool who writes her name on a giant paper heart and then hides it under my pillow.

Surely she feels the connection between us? The bond between a Center and her demons?

The coin lands between us, and I can’t stop the wide grin from splitting my face in two. Katrina releases a sigh of disappointment, but there’s a spark in her eyes that wasn’t there prior.

Maybe, just maybe, my little cherry misses us just as much as we miss her.

“I suppose we have a drive ahead of us,” I say, pulling the van out of the parking lot. Katrina’s eyes narrow.

“Akor, what do you have planned? I need to babysit Adam—”

In answer, I simply cackle like a malevolent, cliché movie character in an eighties horror film.

“Don’t worry. You’ll be back in time,” I say around the chuckle. Maybe Katrina will finally learn what happens when you leave an unhinged demon behind.

By the end of today, she’ll be screaming my name.

I honestly didn’t expect for her to be screaming my name in horror.

But alas, that is what she’s doing as I gleefully connect her body to my own.

“You said it was an airplane ride!” she screams, her shrill voice causing the sky diving instructor to stare at us in concern and a little annoyance. I bare my teeth at him in a clear indication to mind his own fucking business.

“It is an airplane ride,” I soothe, putting my lips to the crown of her gorgeous, pink head. “But we’re just exiting the plane in a fun manner.”

“We’re fucking jumping!” she screams as I once more run my fingers over the strap of my parachute.

If there’s one thing I hate more than angel fuckers, it’s hearing Katrina so distressed. My heart cracks like a ten-pound boulder being thrown over the edge of a cliffside. I just wanted to do something fun and daring with the love of my existence.

It’s easy to forget that she’s a mere mortal, with only eighteen years of existence compared to my few hundred.

“Kitty Kat.” I rub my hand soothingly up and down her hair, loving the feel of her silky soft locks beneath my rough skin. I wonder how good her hair would feel wrapped around my fist as she sucks my—

“Akor,” she whimpers, and the hitch in her voice breaks my fucking heart.

“We don’t have to do this if you don’t want to,” I assure her, ignoring the glare the skydiving instructor throws my way. I don’t know why he’s so pissed, though. He’ll get his fucking money. It would be so much easier if I could just kill the fucker and be done with it. But alas, finding my Center apparently means I have to have a conscience (gag).

“I…I don’t know,” she admits shakily. “I didn’t think we-we were going to do this.”

“And we don’t have to.” I swallow the sudden lump emerging in my throat. “I’m sorry, Katrina. I just thought you would want to do something different on our date.”

She pauses abruptly, muscles going taut and back straightening. I wish desperately I could see her expression. Does she have that tiny crease between both of her brows that I yearn to kiss away? Is she frowning? Smiling? Do her eyes have that gorgeous sparkle I love so much?

“This is a date?” she whispers on a breathy exhale.

“Of course. What else would you expect from a pain demon?” I lean forward to nip at her earlobe, and she jumps with a rather girly squeal. I wish I could bottle up that squeal and open the jar to listen to it whenever I need a reminder of this moment. Maybe…

I can already hear Zolroth’s voice in my head saying, “No, Akor, you can’t cut out our girl’s vocal cords. Use a camera or your goddamn, bloody phone to record it.”

He can be such a downer sometimes. Even more so since Katrina left him.

“You’ve been so stressed with everything going on,” I continue, watching her pulse hammer. I slowly glide my fingers across her neck, loving the way she shivers delicately. “With being a full-time parent to Adam. With school. With that fucking stalker, William.” The last sentence is said as a low growl.

“You do see the irony in calling William a stalker, right?” she points out nonchalantly.

I blink down at her.

“No, what do you mean?”

Silence ensues for a full minute before I feel her body shudder. A slow exhale seems to loosen her muscles as she shakes out her hands.

“L-Let’s do this,” she stutters, attempting to adopt a false bravado.

“Really?”

“Yeah.” She nods her head once, her voice firmer. “Let’s fucking do this.”

My smile physically hurts as I release a whoop, squeezing her more firmly against my chest and hardened cock. When it rubs against her ass shamelessly (my cock’s a fucking hussy), she gasps, and I just know she’ll have that gorgeous blush darkening her cheeks.

“Before we do…” I grab my phone off the bench seat, position us so the opening of the plane is the backdrop, and then snap a selfie of the two of us. When I pull the phone back, I see my own face grinning back at me like a maniac, while Katrina’s face appears devoid of any color. Behind us, all you can see is fluffy white clouds interspersed on a light blue canvas.

Raz is gonna shit himself when he gets this.

“Are you guys doing this or not?” the instructor snaps, and I once more growl at him like a fucking dog.

“Oh, we’re doing this,” Katrina says, full of snark and shocking the shit out of me. “We’re totally doing this.”

“Hell yeah we are!” I smoosh my lips to her hair. “I fucking love you, babe!” Before she can comment, before she can even think about my words, I release a whoop and grab her, turning and racing towards the opening, air whipping Katrina’s hair around my face. I have a second to think that I forgot to put our helmets back on before I dive head first out of the plane, taking Katrina with me.

Katrina slides around the edge of the classroom, as if clinging to the walls will draw less attention to her. Fat chance of that. Akor fucking stole her away yesterday, and my eyes have been longing for the sight of her.

It feels like centuries since I held her tiny, precious form in my arms and we danced. I keep dreaming about her, about the soft skin of her arms and how she looked like she wanted me to kiss her. It’s been torture and I’d blame Raz for that, but he hasn’t been around at night so I know it’s not him.
