Lucky Break (Luvluck Novellas Book 1)(5)
Author: K.L. Shandwick

“Then you shall have it, but I’m a little disappointed because I thought I had someone to wash my glasses and keep things moving at the ceilidh tonight.”

I wondered for a second if I could pull it off then smiled widely, “Ah well, fair’s fair, you thought you had help for the night—I’ll do it.” I agreed, then wondered inwardly if I’d lost my mind.

“Are you fecking kidding me? You’ll have a riot on your hands if you go out there. Maria isn’t very with it as far as bands are concerned. Most of the music she listens to are by people who died hundreds of years ago, so it’s no wonder she didn’t recognize it was you. DistRoyed have a lot of fans here in Dublin.”

“Then we must convince them I’m your Canadian pen-friend who looks like that rock star… what’s his name again?”

Daisy’s jaw dropped as her mouth opened wide then she snickered as she considered what I’d suggested. “Mind you if we pulled that off it would be hysterical. I'm game if you are, it could be a lot of fun. Although, I can be a hard task master. If you worked for me I’d expect you to work hard,” she said and gave me a wink.

“Oh, I can do hard, babe. Hard is my favorite state.”

“I kind of got that idea from how your stiff cock tried its hardest to bore a hole in my hip just now.”

It was my turn to pick my jaw off the floor at her comment and I shook my head and grinned, “Daisy O’Donnell, has anyone told you how incorrigible you are?”

“To be sure, and that’s one of the milder things that’s been said,” she chuckled and played with a few strands of hair. Seeing her do that made me want to run my fingers through it as well.

“Well, how’s about you show me to my room, then you can teach me anything you want?” I offered. Daisy gave me a knowing look, her eyes dark and glittering a little at my flirtatious comment, then she turned on her heel.

“Come on then, hard man. Let’s get your kit on the bed and I’ll fill you in.”

“Not possible, darlin’. If there’s any filling to be done I’m slightly better equipped for the job than you are.”

“There was nothing slight about what I felt a few minutes ago, but maybe later I’ll take a closer look just to make sure of that for myself.”

Once again, she made me laugh, and I wasn’t sure whether or she was joking or not, because quite frankly I was used to offers like that—and worse.

As she turned on her heels, she pushed her hip on a swing door and led me upstairs. Focusing my view of her ass cheeks, I quickly felt mesmerized as they took turns jiggling on the way to the top of the stairs. I couldn’t believe my luck since the moment I pushed open the door and set foot in the pub. It wasn’t just the accommodation that appealed either because as soon as my eyes had met hers I had felt a shift in the air I could only describe as electric.

Daisy talked non-stop on the way to the room, and when she flung open the door I had expected her to stop and let me go first for some reason. I was wrong because she wandered straight in and plonked her ass down on the comforter of the metal king-size bed, then demonstrated how springy the mattress was to show me she hadn’t been kidding.

“See what I mean? This is a great bed,” she confirmed to herself with a grin. I wondered if there were more than a few memories behind her pleasing smile.

“Seems so,” I said from the doorway, in a strangely hesitant stance I wasn’t used to. Caution had never been my middle name, but I wasn’t prepared to make my generous landlady a ten-minute fuck, no matter how appealing the idea was in that moment. I needed a bed for the night.

“Never pegged you for shy, Jamie Fontaine,” she goaded.

I nodded and gave her a lopsided smile, “Me neither. I guess you bring a side out in me I never knew I had.”

“Well, I’m counting on you burying it inside again. I don’t get you here for one night only for you to weird out on me,” she replied.

Her easy honesty made me laugh, “I’m sure I’ll get over it, but didn’t you say you were busy tonight?”

“Only until locking up time, then after that I’m hoping to be a great deal busier,” she added with a chuckle as she pushed herself off the mattress and stood up. “As I’m the boss tonight we’re playing by my rules… now I know that’s a bit of a kick in the ass for you when you’re used to having it all your own way, but if you’re working for me, I’ll expect you to follow my orders.”

“Oh, Maria never said you were a dominatrix as well,” I shot back with another wide grin.

“Only in the bar… in there,” she gestured at the bed with her head, “I’ll expect to be led. I hate lazy feckers that lie on their backs and expect to be ridden.”

I choked on her words. I felt almost sure my eyes were going to leave my head and roll over the floor in response to her flat-out comment, but instead I laughed as she wandered toward me. She patted my chest and looked up at me with eyes full of hope, like all her Christmases had come at once.

“Don’t worry yourself, Jamie. I don’t do this often, and I’m sure I’ve had infinitely less partners in the bedroom than I imagine you’ve had, but I know what I like; and I like what I see. There’s no point in pretending otherwise, so unless you get a better offer in the bar later we’ll see where our flirting takes us.”

Her offer hadn’t sounded like a vague suggestion to me, more like a promise. A promise I was more than excited at the prospect of, and I knew there and then that no matter who presented themselves in the bar that evening, I’d bet none of them would interest me as much as Daisy did. Lucky me.

As she wafted past me at the door, she drew her fingertips along my belt, glanced up at me, and gave me a small smile.

“Bet this belt looks better undone,” she remarked and chuckled to herself. “Alright, freshen up and meet us in the bar in half an hour. The Ceilidgh starts in less than an hour.”

Without looking back at me she wiggled her way down the hall and disappeared down the stairs again.

I stood for a few seconds shaking my head, then wandered into my room for the night and closed the door. Crashing down from my euphoric state of meeting Daisy, I felt bone tired.

Half an hour felt like a long time in my own company since Daisy was down in the bar, so I kicked off my shoes and climbed up onto the old brass bed. Damn it was as comfortable as a I imagined it would feel if I’d been able to lie on a cloud.

Within seconds I fell asleep, dead to the world and uncharacteristically low in energy. The time change and being up for almost two days had totally wiped me out.

Chapter Three

A smooth hand brushed my hair, and the smell of an intoxicating perfume filled my nostrils. It was vaguely familiar, and I prised open my eyes to the sight of Daisy’s piercing eyes staring down at me. “I’m only kidding, you don’t have to work. You must be tired after your flight.”

Slowly, I sat up and brushed my hair back from my face just like Daisy had been trying to do. She stared back at me a frown. “I should have left you sleeping,” she said, looking disappointed with herself.

“No. I’m glad you woke me. I’d have hated to have missed my shift at the dance.”
