Kari (Silver Skates #4)(5)
Author: Elena Gray

Wait. He was right. I was weak and powerless. Whatever spell had transported me here must have locked down my powers. Did this mean I wouldn’t be as fast or as strong either? Would I not be able to heal if I was hurt here? And what about my mother? How would I be able to find her if I was just a human now? This was the cherry on the top of an already shittastic morning.

I was afraid to take my eyes off of him, in fear that he would attack while I was distracted. Despite that I needed to know what was around me. In my immediate vision all I found were trees. I had no idea what I would find behind me, but it had to be better than what could be hiding in the forest.

Based on the Scot’s bloody claymore, and his talk of redcaps and baobhan siths, I definitely didn’t want to find out.

In a panic I blurted, “I know Krav Maga.” Why in Hades did I think to say that? He would have no clue what it even was since this form of self-defense wouldn’t be developed until long after he was dead. And let’s not forget since I was standing here completely naked, there was no way I was kicking my leg up and putting my vagina on full display.

There was that twitch in the corner of his mouth again. He must think I was a lunatic.

Since nothing I said had changed his mind, I wasn’t going to wait around for him to slice and dice me with his sword. I needed to have the advantage of surprise. Turning I sped toward the sound of a hammer striking steel, which meant there had to be a village nearby.

Would anyone even take me in and help me? A woman running around naked might have people slamming doors in their face and who could blame them? I would probably do the same.

I didn’t dare glance back over my shoulder as I pumped my arms, willing my legs to go faster. I’d definitely lost my advanced speed and my left eye was now burning as more soap dripped down from my hair. For the love of Poseidon, just how much shampoo had I used.

I gasped as an arm banded around me from behind. The world blurring around me as my feet left the ground. While I spun in the air, wrapped in the arms of the Highlander, my only thought was this was how I was going to die.

Alone in the past …

Naked.

The air whooshed out of my lungs as we slammed into the ground, the Highlander’s body cushioning my fall, then rolling until I was on my back. Muscular thighs straddled me, his dick hard against my bare stomach. Molten heat rushed through my body at the contact. My life was in danger and my vag wanted dick. Wonderful.

I struggled to scoot out from under him, which only brought his dick closer to where I craved it. Disgusted with myself, I threw my fist at his face, but he easily caught my hands, pinning them to the ground. I bucked and kicked, trying to dislodge him from my body.

“Lass. Quit your struggling,” the Highlander commanded. “Ye really are like a banshee. I’ll not hurt ye, but if you keep moving like that, ye’ll impale yerself on my cock.”

At his words, I halted my movements, my breath coming in gasps. “You called me a baobhan sith. Why wouldn’t you want to hurt me?”

His eyes filled with mischief, his lips quirked into a smile flashing perfectly straight white teeth that would make any orthodontist proud. “I was teasing ye. Ye did have quite the grip on my cock though.”

Heat flooded my cheeks in both anger and embarrassment. Why did he have to keep reminding me of that? “How is scaring the crap out of me entertaining?”

He opened his mouth to respond, but I cut him off. “You were holding a blood soaked claymore. I stood there completely exposed and vulnerable, thinking I was about to die. You had plenty of opportunities to confess you were being a complete asshole. But instead you let me run off looking like a fool and then tackled me to the ground like an animal.” I inhaled a deep breath before adding, “And for the record, I thought your cock was the shower handle.”

I cringed after saying the c word. It was the one word that didn’t come up much in my vocabulary, but seemed to be one he enjoyed using.

The Highlander angled his head at me, his brows drawn in confusion. I was sure he had no idea what a shower handle was, but the rest of my rant didn't need further explanation.

“I’m sorry, lass.” His eyes softened as he leaned closer to me, our faces inches apart. “I did not mean to frighten ye. Ye took me off guard is all. I have never come across anyone such as yerself and needed time to figure out what yer intentions were. I’m a hunter. It’s my duty to keep my clan safe.”

My body relaxed at his confession. I had no idea what it must be like to live in his time, nor the types of creatures he must be confronted with. I also wasn’t responsible for the lives of an entire clan.

Now that I was no longer struggling, the tingling in my body intensified, morphing into a dull ache. Suddenly, I wanted to graze my teeth over his full lower lip and work my way down his neck to his ripped abs. The need to taste every inch of him consumed me.

Mortified at my thoughts, I snapped my gaze back to his eyes. Heat flared in their chocolatey depths. Could he possibly feel what I was feeling? Or worse had I actually moaned out loud? Goddess help me, I was lusting after my captor and I still had no idea what he planned to do with me.

Though I could think of a few things I would like to do with him.

I needed to get my mind out of the gutter and focus on getting out of here alive, but having him so close was making it difficult for me to think. I still wasn’t sure if I could even trust him, but what choice did I have? I was lost and alone. Once I got my bearings, then I could come up with a plan to escape. For now, I needed to put distance between us, before I did something stupid—like kiss him.

“Umm. Would you mind letting me up?” I asked, trying not to wiggle my body against his. “It’s a little awkward lying here naked with you fully clothed on top of me.”

If you could even call his kilt clothing. I could now confirm exactly what Highlanders wore under their kilts. Mystery solved, they wore absolutely nothing.

“I can remedy that, lass.” His eyes darkened with desire as he reached for the hem of his kilt.

“Wait no,” I gasped, squinting at him with one eye. “I mean, not that I don’t appreciate the offer, but my eyes are starting to burn a little.”

He studied me for a moment, then took the edge of his kilt and began to wipe the soap off my face and away from my eyes. The tender and sweet gesture, the opposite of what I would expect from the alpha male who casually held a sword covered in someone or something’s blood.

Before I could analyze his actions any longer, he’d sprung up from the ground, lifting me with him in one smooth movement. A shrill whistle left his lips startling me.

He glanced down at me, smirking. “Don’t worry, lass. I’m just calling my horse. My plaid is with him. I would give you my kilt to cover up with, but I sense seeing me naked might upset you.”

The only thing his naked body would do is excite me even more than I already was. It was better that I couldn’t see what was hidden under the material, because my imagination had already conjured up all sorts of fantasies based on how it felt.

He still held me in his arms, the coarse fibers of his kilt rubbing against my bare skin. When I tried to pull away, his hold on me tightened. And strangely I didn’t mind being held in his arms, even if I was naked.
