Tangled Sheets(7)
Author: J.L. Beck

Running a hand through my hair, I look at the clock on the wall. I can’t remember the last time I left the office at five o’clock. Since the day I started this job, I’ve stayed late. I knew if I wanted to get anywhere, I’d have to put the time in. Today won’t be one of those days, though. Today I’m getting out of here as soon as I can.

I escape the office building, opting to take the stairs instead of the elevator for fear that I might run into him. Yes, eventually we will have to talk and work together, but in order for that to happen, I need to mentally prepare myself.

On my way home, I send Ross a message. He’s the only person I can trust and confide in. Even with this. He won’t judge, and maybe he has a way out of this mess.

Me: Sleepover girl’s night?

Ross: I’ll be there. Everything okay?

He knows me so well. I’d only ask for a sleepover during the week if it was terrible. Times like these you need your bestie to tell you everything is okay, and you didn’t ruin the only job that you’ve ever loved.

Me: Yeah, just need some Ross time.

As soon as I arrive at my apartment, I slip out of my high heels, pencil skirt, and blouse combo as quickly as I can and into my flannel pajamas. I tug my bra off and toss it onto the back of the couch. I don’t care what anyone says, there is nothing as enjoyable as removing your bra at the end of the day.

While I wait for Ross to get here, I pop a bottle of wine open, because God knows I need a drink right now. As if he could smell the alcohol being poured, the doorbell rings as the wine reaches the top of the glass.

Immediately I smile, and the worry of my day melts away slowly.

I place the bottle of red wine on the table and walk to the front door to open it.

“Did someone order a best friend sleepover?” Ross greets while shoving past me and into the apartment. He is dressed in a stylish button-up shirt and fitted jeans, which is his casual lounging wear. “Tell me all the deets. What’s going on? You sounded upset when you texted.”

“How do I sound like anything when I text?”

Ross rolls his eyes and swats his hand at me. “I know these things, beau. Now tell me everything.”

He flops down onto the couch and grabs the glass of wine I poured for him. Ross is gorgeous, short blonde hair, piercing green eyes, and a dimpled smile that makes your heartbeat a little faster in your chest. I can’t tell you how many times ladies have frowned when they discovered he was gay and not at all interested in them.

He’s been a heartbreaker since middle school. Girls used to throw themselves at him before he came out. When he did, I think everyone mourned the loss of straight Ross for a few days before deciding he was an awesome friend no matter what.

Plucking my glass of wine off the table, I snuggle into the couch. Sipping the sweet red wine, I take a couple of drinks before I start my story. Ross’s expressions change so rapidly, it’s like watching someone ride a roller coaster.

“Wait, you got laid two nights ago, in an elevator and I’m only hearing about it now!?” He leans forward and points his index finger at me. Eyebrows furrowed and lips pressed in a fine line. If I didn’t know better, he looks pissed.

“I know. I’m sorry I was so busy with work and the project I was telling you about. Which leads me to the actual problem.” I cringe.

Ross pauses with his lips against the glass. “Oh my God, mystery man is on the project with you?”

“Worse. Mystery man is leading the project. Mystery man is Nicholas Brooks, as in Brooks Enterprise.”

“Baby Jesus flying fuck fest, you screwed your boss,” he cuts me off, places his glass down on the small living room table, and throws up his hands dramatically.

“Yes,” I groan before taking a huge sip of wine. “Ross, what am I going to do? I’ve worked so hard for this. What if someone finds out? What if he wants me off the team or worse, he fires me? You know I help my parents out, they need the extra money. If he lets me go, then I…”

“Whoa, babe, slow down. Let’s talk about the most important part first.” He grins. “How big was his dick?”

“Ross!” I slap his arm playfully. “This is serious,” I whine, even though I’m glad he is trying to make me laugh. Maybe that’s really what I need, a good laugh, a bubble bath and to forget that anything ever happened.

“And?” he probes, clearly not going to move on till he gets an answer.

“It was very much above average.” I grin back at him.

“Ugh, rich, good looking, and a big dick. Life is really not fair. Does he at least have a gay brother?”

“He has a brother, but I don’t think he’s gay. Sorry.”

“Well, poo,” he pouts.

“What am I going to do, Ross? Today went horribly. I don’t even want to go to work tomorrow because I’m afraid of making a fool of myself. I was stumbling all over my words, and had everyone in the boardroom except him and myself laughing.”

Ross straightens his shoulders and sits up a little. “You were caught off guard. Tomorrow, you will be prepared. You will walk your firm little ass in there, with your head held high, and show them what you’ve got. I mean, you already banged the boss, so what more do you have to prove?”

“Ugh, Ross.” I shake my head.

“Kidding, you’re awesome, babe, and they’ll realize that soon enough.”

“You think so?”

“I know so, beau. Now, enough with the self-doubt. Fill these glasses back up.”

A stack of papers is spread out on the large table in the boardroom, and I try to concentrate on the architect’s plan. I’ve never been so distracted before, and all because of the pretty brunette I can’t get out of my head.

What did I get myself into?

If this project wasn’t so important to me, I’d consider dropping it. But it’s not just any hospital we are building. No one knows this yet, mainly because it’s not anyone else’s business, but we are building this hospital in honor of my mother.

Everything needs to be perfect, and I can’t let my silly infatuation with this woman impede that. I need to forget about her and the elevator. It’s the only way.

I can’t… I won’t drop the project, and I can’t kick her off either. My brother picked her for a reason. She is good, the best we have, and she’s worked her ass off. Her firm, but great ass.

I remember vividly how her skin felt, her smell, and her taste. The way her breasts fit perfectly in my palm, and the feel of her pussy when she came all over my cock.

Damn it, this is going to be harder than I thought.

Maybe I can just get her moved, give her a raise or a bonus? I don’t know what she’d want and I have to tread lightly. If I mess with her, I could have a lawsuit on my hands. She doesn’t strike me as one of those women, but I can’t be too careful. There’s too much at stake for me not to worry.

My best bet is to forget about it. Act like nothing ever happened. Yes, that’s it. Nothing happened. Here’s to hoping that she does the same, and by the reaction I saw from her in the meeting, I don’t think that will be a problem.
