Valentine's Hearts (Owatonna U Hockey #5)(5)
Author: R.J. Scott

“You came back,” Jacob said from the darkness of our living room, then switched on the small lamp that Colorado had bought us when we moved in. It was a patterned orange and purple, the colors of the desert, according to him, and I swear there was the shape of an emu in the swirls, but I couldn’t be sure. The lights on our small Christmas tree cast a colorful glow in the other corner, and a silver star on the top caught the light and threw it over Jacob’s features.

“Of course I did.”

“Where did you go?”

“Around. I actually ended up sitting in the parking lot outside Target and almost got arrested.”

“What?” Jacob stood then, buzzing with righteous indignation. “You can’t be arrested for sitting in a parking lot.”

I stepped into the glow cast by the lamp. “I think the cop actually would have arrested me for fucking up tonight’s game.”

“You didn’t,” Jacob defended immediately.

“I did. I was all over the place, selfish with the puck, too much in my head I think, worrying about the game, the team, Adam, you.”

True to form he picked up on the one word that I’d slipped in which was the bone of contention in our home. “You have nothing to worry about with Adam.”

“Nothing to worry about from the sexy millionaire with the mansions and the cars, and did I mention the sexiness and the way he’s always touching your arm, and smiling at you?”

Jacob worried at his lip, and I could see his thoughts jumping from one scenario to another, but before we started to argue again about a ghost who shouldn’t even have been in the room with us, I stepped into his space.

“I’m sorry,” I began.

“Me too. He’s like that with everyone, demanding, and this job means too much and with Adam I—"

I didn’t want him to mention Adam, so I talked right over him. “I’d get married naked in the desert with Colorado’s grandmother officiating, and with an emu as the best man, if it meant I had you in my life forever.” I’d framed the admission as a joke to make Jacob smile, and he tugged me into his arms and held me tight. I didn’t really want to stand naked in front of Alchemy and an emu, or indeed Colorado, but truth be told I’d go anywhere and do anything just to marry Jacob.

“About the cake. I choose chocolate,” Jacob murmured. “Any kind of chocolate cake, but I’ve been thinking that maybe we take up Apollo’s offer to make it, instead of going to some impersonal cake place we don’t know…? He could come here before the New Year, and I’m sure we can fit in talking to him about what we want. Together.”

“Next thing, you’ll want me to talk to Alchemy about officiating,” I joked again, which was apparently one quip too far. Jacob stepped back a little and cradled my face.

“The wedding will be wonderful however it happens, and I can’t wait to marry you, but I want it to mean…” he paused and rested his forehead to mine.

“What?”

“More. I want it to mean more. I don’t want to be on show, I don’t want to make a huge flashy statement about marriage equality, I want to marry the man I love, and I get you’re a public figure but… please let this be about us.”

I bristled a little, but that was to be expected, because the core of everything—marrying Jacob—was important, but in my eyes the other things were as well. Proving to the world I loved Jacob, and that I was entitled to love him, and that we were happy, was vital to me.

But was it because I wanted to show the world? Or was it to show Adam?

“Let’s go to bed.” Jacob flicked off the lamp, and we headed to our room, falling into bed and holding each other tight. We didn’t make love, or talk; we wrapped our arms around each other and slept.

I’ll deal with the rest in the morning.

There’re tons of things that I could’ve grown tired of. Old songs, out-of-style clothing, cartoons that were hilarious when I was six but were not so funny now that I was an adult, things such as bias, hatred, the usual crap.

But, one thing I’d never tire of was waking up next to Ryker and watching the sun dance across his curls. He tended to sleep on his stomach, long legs tangled in the bedding. This morning, his arms were over his head and his strong back bare. I rolled to my side, eager to touch. His hair was satiny smooth. I ran my fingers through the thick mass, enjoying how it would bounce back after each stroke.

“Mmm,” he sighed into his pillow. I dropped a kiss to his arm. “Mmm again.” I nipped at his shoulder. “Mmm times three.”

“I want you,” I murmured, peppering his back with love bites as I ground my hard dick into his hip.

“Want you too,” he replied, lifting his sweet ass into the air. I licked my way down his spine as I slid over him. Chest to back, I aligned my cock with the crack of his ass. His fingers tightened on the headboard. “Lube, now.”

He didn’t have to repeat himself. I grabbed the pump bottle from the nightstand, coated my cock, and pressed him down into the bed. I still had a few inches and about thirty pounds on him. Not that he was a pushover. The man was a powerhouse, but in bed, he was malleable and eager to be taken. I straddled his thighs, my slick fingers spreading his cheeks then toying with his hole.

“Come on, baby,” he huffed, his plea more than enough encouragement. Easing into him was glorious.

“God you’re hot,” I groaned as I slid in deeper, my fingers biting into his buttocks. Watching my dick disappear between his round cheeks made me mad with want. I thrust hard, burying myself inside him. Ryker tossed his head back, curls falling over his neck. “Ready?”

“Yeah, shit, fuck me. Hard. I want to feel you all day,” he growled as he gripped the edge of the mattress.

Being a courteous lover, I gave my man what he desired. With the desert sun beating in on us, I pumped like a wild man. He locked his arms over his head, gripping the headboard, his back now coated with a sheen of sweat. It had been a week since we’d last had sex so our orgasms rode us with speed. He came first, blowing his wad all over the bedding, his body clamping on my dick. Lost in the sensation, I grunted and heaved myself down and over him, grabbing a meaty thigh and hoisting it up and to the side.

“Fuck, fuck!” Ryker shouted as I nailed his gland over and over. Watching him under me, writhing and humping the bed, I lost the tiny bit of control I’d had. I dropped onto his slick back and came inside him, shuddering with each pulse.

“Ry, baby, shit,” I whimpered, holding on then throwing my weight to the left. My cock slid out then, coating his ass cheek with spunk. He softened in my arms. I sucked on his throat as I searched for his cock. I took his dick in hand. He pumped into my fist a few times before he melted in my embrace. “Love you, love you so much,” I whispered beside his ear before taking the lobe between my teeth.

“Love you… so much,” he replied breathlessly.

We lay there working to catch our breath, our bodies cooling, content with the world.

“We got a mess,” Ryker stated the obvious.

“I know.” I sighed, kissed his cheek, my lips enjoying his new whiskers. I cinched him closer. “Sorry for… well, everything. This job—”
