Playing Dirty (The Driven World)(7)
Author: Cheri Marie

“What?” She snips and my eyes snap back up to hers.

“Oh, I was just trying to figure out why we’re still standing here. I mean, unless you had any questions?”

She rolls her eyes. “Nope. None. Thank you for your time, Mr Abbott.”

She walks to the door, pushing it open and I take the opportunity to piss her off more.

“Anytime, sugar tits.”

Chapter Six

Tristan

I spin around to face him, ready to tell him off but before I can get a word out, he closes the distance between us. I look up at him through my lashes, his close proximity stealing the breath from my lungs. His hand comes up, gently removing mine from the door, letting it fall closed. I take a step back, trying to put some distance between us again but find myself backed against the wall.

“What are you doing?” I ask, my voice coming out a breathless whisper.

He brings his hand up, tucking a piece of hair behind my ear and caressing my cheek. Then without a word, his lips find mine and I lose all rational thought as his tongue does a dance with mine. The mixture of his scent and his hands is divine. His mouth is hot and hungry against mine as his tongue dances across my bottom lip causing me to moan. His scent of cologne and body wash only pull me further into him while I lose all control.

I let the stuff in my hands drop to the floor as I bring my hands up, entwining my fingers at the nape of his neck as he presses his body against mine. His hands move down my body, over my ass to my thighs as he lifts me and at that moment my conscious kicks in. I break the kiss, wiggling out of his arms to my get my footing again before pushing him away.

“No. No, no, no, I can’t do this. I have a boyfriend,” I say, as I scramble to grab my keys, notepad and pen from the floor.

I can feel his eyes on me as I scramble to pull myself together, but I refuse to look up at him. Swinging the door open, I quickly leave the building, sliding into the driver’s seat of my car, finally able to take a breath. Putting the key in the ignition, I turn it over and… nothing.

No, no, no this cannot be happening. Not here, not now.

I try to start my car and still, nothing. Picking up my phone, I dial Lazaro hoping he’s finished work and isn’t too far away.

He answers. “Hi.” His tone is cold and distant.

“Hey babe, umm I’ve just finished work and I can’t start my car. Are you finished work?” I ask.

“Not yet, but I can come and help then I need to go back to work.”

“Thanks babe. I’m at 2020 Becker Lane.”

“Okay, I’ll be there soon.”

Things obviously aren’t as bad as I thought between us if he’s coming to get me. Thank goodness. I let my head fall back against the headrest and shut my eyes. Just let him get here before Sebastian comes out and sees me sitting here. A few minutes pass and I hear a tap on my window. Lazaro must have been close by because that was fast! But when I open my eyes, it isn’t Lazaro. Shit. I hit the button for my window to roll it down.

“Everything okay?” Sebastian asks.

“Yea, my car just won’t start but my boyfriend is on his way,” I add extra emphasis to the word boyfriend.

“I’d love to take a look under your hood, if you’d let me,” he says, a smirk sprawled across his face.

I immediately catch onto his innuendo. “Not in your wildest dreams.”

Sebastian rests his arms on my door, leaning in close enough that I catch a whiff of his scent again, making me remember what it felt like to have his lips upon mine.

I can’t do this. I’m with Lazaro but this man is making me feel things I shouldn’t.

“Oh, you are mistaken sugar tits. It’s definitely in my wildest dreams and yours, obviously,” he says with a wink before standing up.

“That was a momentary lapse in judgement. I assure you; it won’t happen again.” I lie as the thought of his body hovering over mine has heat pooling at the apex of my thighs and I silently curse myself for being affected by his words. His scent. His lips. His rock hard… body. Where the fuck is Lazaro? I glance at Sebastian and the cocky smirk on his face just pisses me off all over again.

Swinging my car door open, I step out of my car and march towards where he’s standing.

“Listen,” I point my finger is his face. “You need to stop with your little sexual innuendos because they are definitely not reciprocated. So, you can take your little nickname and get lost!”

I hear a car coming up the street and just as I turn to walk away, I trip over the cement parking block. Sebastian moves quickly and his body stops me from hitting the ground. His body against mine has my heart pounding and my chest rising and falling quickly as I try to suck oxygen into my lungs. His sexy, bedroom, brown eyes gaze down at me, my hands resting against his chest. I’m momentarily lost in his eyes when I hear someone clear their throat and I spin around to find Lazaro staring at us, clearly pissed off.

“What’s going on here?” He asks.

I get my balance, straightening myself out and step away from Sebastian. “Laz, this is Sebastian Abbott, Sebastian this is my boyfriend, Lazaro Perez.”

“So, this is the boyfriend, huh?” Sebastian’s demeanor seems to shift, and he hesitates for a moment but then steps forward, extending his hand to Lazaro. “Pleasure to meet you,” he says, shaking Lazaro’s hand.

“Likewise,” Lazaro says flatly, before turning his attention back to me. “So, what’s wrong with your car?”

“When I turn it over, it doesn’t do anything. Doesn’t even sound like it’s trying to start.”

“Sounds like the battery,” Sebastian butts in.

Lazaro looks at me then Sebastian and back to me before popping the hood and beginning to inspect the battery. I steal a glance at Sebastian and he's staring at me. I narrow my eyes at him and nod for him to go.

“Well, now that your boyfriend is here to rescue you, I’ll get going. It was great to meet both of you and I look forward to hearing from your boss.”

“Thank you.”

He nods in acknowledgement and I watch as he walks across the street to leave before turning back to watch Lazaro who looks up at me but doesn’t say anything.

“So, is it the battery?” I ask, trying to break the awkward silence.

“It’s the terminals. They need to be replaced so they aren’t making a good connection. Try to start it.”

I slide into the seat and try to start it. It tries to start but doesn’t.

“Try it again,” he calls from the front of the car. I try again and this time it starts. Lazaro shuts the hood and comes around the side of the car. “It’ll get you home. Don’t stop anywhere else. I’m going to stop at the parts store to get new terminals for your car and then I’ll be home.”

“Okay. Thank you. I love you.”

“Yea, me too,” he says before walking away to get into his car.

I sit there for a moment, confused as I watch Lazaro walk to his car and pull away. The fact that he didn’t say I love you back doesn’t go unnoticed. Honestly, now that I think about it, I can’t even recall the last time he told me he loved me. I quickly swipe away the couple tears that break free from my eyes as I put the car in reverse and pull away from the building to head home.
