Picking up my phone, I shoot off a text to Arianna to let her know I’ve set up the appointment to view the building.

Me: Hey, I just heard back about the building on Becker Lane. It’s still available and the owner can meet you to show you the building on Tuesday at 2pm.

Arianna: Great, thank you Tristan! I was going to come back to the office, but Heaven is feeling really bad. So, go ahead and forward the calls to my phone and then close for the day.

Me: Awe okay, no problem. Tell my little sidekick I hope she feels better soon!

Arianna: I did. She said thank you and love you Tris.

Me: Tell her I love her too. Talk to you later BOSS! (That's for calling me sugar tits)

Arianna: Snort-laugh

I can’t help but laugh at her response. Reaching over I hit the call forwarding button on the business phone and gather my things to close for the day. I’m excited to be able to get home early today, It’ll give me a chance to make a special dinner for Lazaro since it seems we’ve been growing apart lately. Plus, it’s the weekend, so maybe we can go on a date or do something fun. Grabbing my laptop, I slip it into my bag as I hear the office door open.

“I’m sorry, we’re closed for the day.”

“That’s too bad, I guess I’ll have to come back tomorrow then.” A familiar voice sounds from behind me. It can’t be? Not Jaxon? He’s supposed to be on deployment for another few months yet. Spinning around I drop the items on the floor, tripping over them as I race towards him. Of all my siblings we’re the closest. I miss him every time he leaves.

“Jaxon!” I jump into my brother’s arms. “What are you doing here?”

“I’m home on leave,” he says, placing me on my feet.

“For how long?” I’m hoping he’ll be home for a while yet.

He shrugs. “Not sure yet.”

“I’m so happy to see you! I’ve missed you!”

“I’ve missed you too little sister.”

“Does Evan know you’re home yet?” Evan is our brother. He owns the mechanic shop in town.

“No, I want to surprise him too. I was hoping you’d help me?”

“Of course! I can’t wait to see the look on his face.” I gather up my scattered items and lock the office door, still unbelieving Jaxon is here. I chat excitedly with my brother about how we’re going to surprise Evan.

I pull up to Evan’s shop, making sure not to pull directly in front where he could see me without coming outside. Picking up my phone from my lap, I dial his number and wait for him to answer.

“Hey, Tris. What’s up?” He answers.

“I need your help, there’s something wrong with my car. Its smoking and I don’t know what’s going on. Please hurry.”

“Okay, where are you? Shut off the ignition and get away from the car.”

“I’m right up the street, please hurry,” I say, feigning as much fake panic as I can before hanging up and leaning against the front of the car with Jaxson while we wait. Suddenly Evan bursts out the door in a hurry, his keys in hand to jump into his truck and then he notices me.

“What the hell Tristan? I thought there was-“ He stops mid-sentence blinking as he notices Jaxson standing beside me... “Holy fuck! Jaxson!” Evan shouts, jogging over to us and wrapping his arms around Jaxson. “When did you get home?”

“This morning. I surprised Tristan at work and then obviously she helped me set you up.”

Evan side eyes me before laughing it off and hugging Jaxson again like he might disappear. “It’s great to have you home Jax!”

“It’s good to be home,” Jaxson admits.

“Well… I love you both, but I’m starving and I’m sure Jaxson would like to shower and change. How about we have a family dinner at my place? You guys can see Laz.”

Evan rolls his eyes.

“Still with that loser, huh?” Jaxson asks.

I stand straight, putting my hands on my hips. “He’s not a loser and yes, we’re still together.”

“Great! Dinner at your place sounds great. It might do some good to remind your boyfriend who your brothers are.”

Now, I’m the one rolling my eyes. “Come on, let me drop you off at home so I can get home to shower and cook!”

We say goodbye to Evan, and I make my way to their house to drop Jaxson off to shower and wait for Evan. I pull into the driveway, putting the car in park before turning to Jaxson.

“Promise me you and Evan will be nice tonight, please? I know you both aren’t exactly fans of Laz but just try to be nice, for me?”

He just stares at me for a moment before he sighs. “Fine. I promise to be nice.”

“Thank you,” I say, leaning over to hug him. “I’ll see you guys in a couple hours.”

Jaxson climbs out of the car and waves goodbye as I back out of the driveway and head towards home. Pulling into the parking lot of our apartment complex, Lazaro is already parked in one of our reserved spots. Grabbing my things from the car, I climb the two flights of stairs to our apartment.

“Hey babe,” I say as I walk into the apartment.

Lazaro is sitting on the couch, his tie hanging loose around his neck as he argues with someone on the phone. He puts his finger to his lips, signaling for me to be quiet. I mouth an apology as I set my things on the table and head for the bathroom to shower and change before I start dinner.

Stepping into the shower, I let the warm water rush over me, before I start scrubbing the day away. Taking the loofah with some extra soap, I scrub between my breasts making sure to get all the stickiness from the sugar remnants my donut left behind earlier. My mind wanders back to the guy from the bakery. His fuck me brown eyes. His infuriating, yet sexy as fuck half smirk. The thought of him speaks right to the apex of my thighs, and I curse myself for thinking about another man when my boyfriend is sitting in the next room.

I rinse off the suds and step out of the shower, slinging a towel around me while I grab a bra and panties, yoga pants and a t-shirt from my dresser and get dressed. I notice it’s quiet in the living room so Lazaro must be finished on his call. I tie my hair up in a messy bun and make my way out to the kitchen to start cooking.

“Hey babe. My brothers are coming-” I don’t even bother to finish my sentence when I reach the living room and realize Laz is gone and there’s a note on the counter.

Had to go back to work. It’ll be a late night. I’ll order food in. Don’t wait up. - Laz

Great. Just another reason for my brothers to hate him more.

I crumble the note and toss it into the trash. I shouldn’t let this distance get between us, but it is becoming more and more apparent he doesn’t want to be here. I can feel my heart cracking just a little as I realize I’ve spent the longest time with him and am in love with him, but it’s not reciprocated.

I need to busy myself cooking dinner or I’m going to overthink the entire situation. I don’t need to dwell on sadness tonight, not when my brother is home from war.

A little over an hour later there’s a knock at the door before my brothers let themselves in.

“Smells good in here,” Evan says, walking in and taking a seat at the table.
