Scarred By Pain (Royal Bastards MC : New Orleans, LA #2)(5)
Author: Crimson Syn

Slowly, I removed the bandage and my eyes went wide as I realized I had stitches on my head. They were finely threaded and perfectly woven. I turned, searching the room but the place didn’t seem to be like any hospital I’d ever been in, which meant God only knew who had taken me, let alone who had stitched me up.

“I’d be careful with that. It’s freshly patched.”

Startled, I turned toward the voice. The abrupt movement made me sway violently and I gripped onto the sink to hold myself steady. I saw movement and held my hand up.

“No! Don’t come near me.”

“Alright, sweetheart. I’m not comin’ near you.”

I closed my eyes and took a few deep breaths. “Where am I?”

“Off the beaten path.”

“What?” My eyes tried to focus but the room continued to spin.

“We’re just off a dirt road in the Bayou. Are you sure you don’t want to sit down?”

He took a step closer, my eyes beginning to adjust, as the man slowly came to view. He looked like an Adonis, only this one had steel blue eyes and tattoos that decorated his perfect broad shoulders and thick arms. I stared at him, unable to get a word out.

I’d seen him before, in my dreams. Only he was much more beautiful in person and it took me off guard. Maybe I was still dreaming.

Most of the men who hung around Tadeo were grimy and disgustingly vulgar. Old disrespectful pervs who only looked at a woman for one thing. I’d seen how they demeaned them, beat them, treated them like property.

But this man seemed different. In appearance he had reddish brown hair, a thick unruly beard, and he was built like a truck. He wore a dirty white tank, smeared in what looked like grease and he smelled of leather and sweat. For some reason, his scent drove my body wild and his rugged looks held me captivated.

“Who are you?”

His eyes darted back to me and the intensity in them made me blush. I should have felt scared, intimidated by him, but I was beyond that. I mean if he’d wanted to hurt me, he wouldn’t have saved me.

“Why do you need to know?” His voice was deep, rough, and it did things to my insides.

“Because…”

“You’re safe, that’s all you need to know.”

He turned to leave and as I reached out to him, I stumbled forward. He turned and caught me right before I slammed my head against the wall.

“Fuck,” I breathed as the world spun. “What’s wrong with me?”

“Concussion.”

I looked up into his steel blue gaze. His arms wrapped around me felt better than I expected. He felt...safe. I gasped as he dragged me up off the floor and walked me back over to the couch, carefully setting me onto the cushions.

His cheek grazed mine as his hands ran down the expanse of my thigh, I shuddered. He stayed there for a second. His breath mingling with mine at his proximity. “You need to lay still for a while longer. I’m gonna get you something to eat.”

He pulled back and walked out without another word. I stared at the door as it slammed shut behind him. I had so many questions, but they were all jumbled thoughts.

Where was I? Who was he? What time was it?

The questions fluttered through my head in waves and as I leaned my head back, I was again fell back asleep.

“Hey! Hey, wake up sweetheart.”

I flinched as someone was slapping my cheeks. “I need you to keep those eyes open for me, pretty girl.”

I swatted the hands away and forced myself to open my eyes. “That’s it, good girl.”

I groaned as I struggled to sit up. That familiar smell of leather and grease engulfed me and I leaned into the stranger, letting him help me.

“I need you to take this,” I leaned back into his strong chest as he slipped a couple of pills into my hand. Slipped them into my mouth, he pressed a bottle of water to my lips and I managed to swallow them. After a moment, I slowly shifted around to look at him.

“Just tell me who you are. I promise I won’t tell anyone.”

He set the bottle of water down and scrunched his brow as he assessed me. “How the hell did you wind up on that road?”

I stared into his blue eyes and frowned. My thoughts were muddled, but I did remember the sight of the deer’s eyes. “It came out of nowhere.”

“What did?”

“The buck. It came out of nowhere. I hit the brakes but it was too late so I swerved and slammed into what I could only assume was a tree.” My eyes widened as I slowly realized the mess, I’d gotten myself into. “Oh my God, where is my truck?”

“It’s somewhere safe. I need to work on it but it won’t be ready for a few days.”

“Shit,” I whispered wondering how in the hell I was going to tell Diego, let alone how I was going to get back home. I didn’t even know where I was, let alone how long I’d been out.”

“What time is it?”

“It’s past noon.”

“Oh my God!” I scrambled to get up but was grabbed and forced to stay seated. “You don’t understand, I have to go.”

I tried getting up again, and he leaned over me, holding my wrist and body pinned to the couch. “You can’t keep me here.”

“There is no way you are leaving here unless you tell me your name and how it is you got stuck out there.”

“You don’t understand. If I don’t get back home, I’m as good as dead.”

“And you don’t understand that women like you don’t belong on that road.

He froze, his eyes focused on me as he realized what I said. I could tell he didn’t like my response not one bit.

“Please let me go.”

“Who is going to kill you?”

“That’s none of your business,” I tried pushing up against his barreled chest but that didn't work out too well for me.

“The hell it isn't. Listen, if you need protection…”

“What I need is for you to let me go!” I pushed as hard as I could, and he released me. I scrambled off the couch and headed to the door. My head was pounding as I clutched onto the handle, but when I tugged, the door didn’t budge. I tried again, and nothing. When I turned to look at him, I realized his hand was leaning on the door, making sure it was held shut.

“Let me go.”

“Sweetheart, the only way out of here is by car or bike. You’re miles off the road you came on.”

I hung my head as he leaned in on me. “What’s your name?”

“Dyanara.”

“Okay, Dyanara. Tell me where you want to go, and I’ll take you.”

“What? Oh no, you can’t do that.”

“And why not?”

“Because they’ll kill you too,” I breathed, fear finally jolting me awake.

“Listen here, little girl. If you are running away from somethin’ or someone then I assure you I am the only man who could help you.”

“Then you can help me by letting me borrow your car.”

“What?”

“Let me borrow your car. I’ll find a way to bring it back, but please. Please don’t keep me here any longer.”

Tears started to slide down my cheek as I realized that no matter what I did, I’d given up the little freedom I had for this. I’d blown my small chance, all for a stupid joy ride.
