Let Me Love You More(7)
Author: Alandra Knight

“It’s okay. You looked like you just watched a cat get run over.”

I let out a chuckle. “No, it was worse than that. I was lost in not-so-pleasant memories of the past,” I explain sadly.

“We all have those. It sucks, doesn’t it?”

“Yeah. It seems to faze me a lot more than him though.”

Liam shakes his head. “For what it’s worth, and from what Cal and Carter tell me, I personally think Chris is a fucking moron.”

“Thanks, that makes me feel a little better.” This guy is so amazing and sweet, I could just talk to him all night long.

“So, I was wondering. Would you like to come home with me?” he asks.

I raise my eyebrow at him, my eyes growing wide. “I’m so not like that.”

Liam’s eyes get really wide. “No, it’s not like that! Man, did that come out wrong. I’m sorry. I meant that it’s loud in here, and if I’m being completely honest, I’ve been enjoying talking with you and I’m not ready to not talk to you. I was wondering if you’d like to find somewhere quieter to talk more. For the record, I’m not like that either. Wow, this is awkward and you’re probably thinking how you are going to have an adult conversation with me when I am a rambling dork-fish.”

I smile. “An adult conversation with a dork-fish? That’s a rarity these days,” I say jokingly with a small smile.

“Is that a yes?” Liam asks, looking hopeful.

“Yeah, I think I’d like that.”

The whole way to his car, I’m fighting with these voices in my head. This is a bad idea. This is so great. A conversation with a guy, okay a really hot guy. I’m not sure if I should do this. What will it hurt, Mia? It’s just a talk, with a really, really hot guy whose abs you have been thinking about licking all night. Ugh! Mia, focus!

Liam leads me outside to his car. As he opens the car door for me to slip inside, I smile. “Thank you.”

I’ve never had a man open the car door for me before, I could start to like this.

Once he settles into the driver’s seat, he speeds off down the road. I’m surprised by how comfortable the silence is between us. After a short while, Liam pulls into a driveway. I’m in complete shock by how gorgeous his cabin is.

Chapter 4

Liam

My cabin sits on my nonna and nonno’s property toward the back. It’s where my brothers and I grew up. My brothers and I each bought some of the land from Nonno and Nonna since it was so much upkeep for the two of them. This way we could all stay close to each other as well. I see Mia’s face light up as we pull up to the garage of my three-story log cabin. I remember how I had spent so much time designing this place, and that I wanted it to have a warm homey feeling to it. The bottom level has a river rock façade to it. This level also has the home gym, living room, and the open concept kitchen/dining area which is off the garage. It has a sliding glass door on the opposite side from the garage that leads out to the porch.

I help Mia out of the car, and we walk onto the front porch, which runs along the entire length of the cabin. In the corner hangs a porch swing. I love to sit out here on rainy nights and listen to the sounds of the rain as it hits the tin roof.

Unlocking the door, I take Mia’s hand and lead her inside. We walk along the back wall of the living room that has a floor-to-ceiling fireplace made of flagstone. Beside the fireplace is a flagstone-faced stairway that leads upstairs to a balcony that wraps around the inside of the house.

“Would you like a tour?” I ask.

“Yes, please.”

I guide Mia upstairs and show her where the boys’ rooms are going to be and the guest room. Then I lead her back down the steps and into the kitchen.

I hear a small gasp from Mia when we enter the kitchen area. “Wow! This is such a gorgeous kitchen!” Mia exclaims excitedly.

“It’s my second favorite room in the house.” I hold out my hand for her to take. As she puts her hand in mine, we walk down three steps into the master bedroom. The master bedroom has an open and spacious floor plan but it’s the master bath that’s my favorite. I walk her through the room to the double doors at the side. As I open both doors, I hear a small squeak of surprise from Mia. Mia’s eyes are huge as she says, “Oh my God! This is every woman’s dream bathroom.”

“I’m glad you think so,” I tell her with a huge smile.

There’s a soaking tub that’s been built into the pop-up floor, with a huge walk-in shower in the corner that could easily fit six people comfortably. Off to the left is a spacious counter and sink with a huge mirror, and the toilet has been set into its own area behind a door next to the counter.

Wandering back into the bedroom, I allow Mia to just take in her surroundings. Opening the vertical blinds slowly, I reveal the sliding doors to the sunporch and beckon Mia to come over. I open the door, so that she can step out onto the screened-in porch. It’s climate controlled with a huge hot tub that has massage jets in one corner, and a lounge area on the other side. The sunporch stretches to the kitchen’s sliding glass doors, but there’s a wall in between for privacy.

Mia looks into my eyes. “Wow! If there was ever a paradise, this palace would definitely be it.” Her voice is full of awe and wonder.

“Palace?”

“I live in a three-bedroom, one-and-a-half-bath house. Your living room is the size of my entire living room and kitchen combined. The fireplace alone looks like heaven. The only thing I get that’s even close to that is a lit Christmas tree one and a half months out of the year. I noticed the only furniture in the house was on the back porch. You don’t live here yet?”

“I just got the keys for the house yesterday. I want to show you the other room.” I lead her to the other side of the house to show her the other bedroom with a connecting bathroom.

“So, is it just you here?” Mia asks with curiosity in her eyes.

“Me and my two boys, Aiden and Cooper.”

“How old are they?”

“They’re both ten.”

“You have twins? I bet that is a blast.”

“There’s never a dull moment for sure.” After a brief pause, I ask, “What about you? I mean, I know that you have a son and a daughter because Cal and Carter talk about their niece and nephew all the time.”

Mia’s face lights up. “I have a ten-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter.”

“We should get them together. I’m sure the boys would love to meet kids their own age.” Mia’s face falls almost as quickly as it lit up, and she looks worried. Of course, I don’t know her very well at this point, so I’m not positive. I quickly try to recover, not wanting to make her feel like we’re rushing into things. “Sorry if that came out a little bit forward.”

“No, it’s not like that…”

She’s hesitant about what to say next.

“Can I get you a glass of wine?” I offer, trying to release the tension.

Mia flashes me her killer smile as she says, “I would like that. Thank you.”

I walk into the kitchen and pour two glasses of wine. Even though I haven't officially moved in yet, I’ve been bringing things over little by little. I have been renting a place from my brother for the past several years since my split from my boys’ mother. “How about we go to the back porch? We can sit there and talk if that’s okay.”
